Having put all of its chips on the table by trading its 2015 first round pick to move up and select wide receiver Sammy Watkins, the Buffalo Bills brass are now holding their breath regarding the player’s bruised ribs.

So far Watkins said he’s good to go for the season opener against the Chicago Bears.

Watkins said, “I’m feeling pretty good. We’ll just go and see how far I can go. I think it’s just the pain tolerance I’m going to have to get through. I just have to be prepared for it. Just about any other rib injury, it’s just the soreness of it. Nothing else can happen with the ribs. You just have to go out there and be strong and finish the game. If I need to take a breather, take two or three plays off from being hit, that’s what I’m going to do.”

For the home team, questions remain about the defense, which had a shaky preseason at best. Chicago Bears coach Marc Trestman remains positive.

He said, “We’re going to have to come together. It’s going to be a process working together, getting to know each other, how each other works. But the talent level’s there. We think the talent level is in a place right now where we’ve got a chance to go out each and every week, get better and improve. That’s what we’re going to try and do as we work through this week of practice and the start of the season.”

When you breakdown this game, all signs point to whether the Bears offense can move the ball against the Bills defense. That said, the Bills could surprise folks – 6.5 points is a lot – with its powerful defensive line and seemingly unstoppable running game.
