Caleb Plant vs Caleb Truax Odds

Fighter Odds
Caleb Plant -5000
Caleb Truax +1000

Odds taken Jan. 27 at DraftKings

This fight presents Plant with the chance to be tested at a slightly higher level than he’s used to, and it gives Truax a chance at redemption via a path back to world championship glory.

Caleb Plant’s First Defense of 2021

Plant is among the best super middleweights in the world presently, and there is understandably a lot of support around him heading into this fight.

There’s even dialogue about a potential fight for Caleb Plant with Canelo Alvarez later in the year should things coincide with what the oddsmakers think will happen this weekend.

If anyone is familiarized with playing the role of spoiler though, it’s Caleb Truax.

Plant has maintained a hold on the gold for the last two years when he bested José Uzcátegui in January 2019.

The two successful title defenses so far have some by way of TKO victory for Caleb Plant.

Caleb Truax’s Path Back to IBF Gold

As was mentioned earlier, Truax is no stranger to this particular belt. He captured this same IBF championship then lost it in his next fight during a pair of bouts with James DeGale.

Truax has gone unbeaten in his last three outings to redirect his path back to the IBF belt.

To regain the title he once held ownership of, Truax will need to put the first blemish on the spotless professional record of Plant.

These 168-pounders are at a fun crossroads moment here. Plant is looking to maintain his exemplary run so far, and the veteran Truax seeing if he still has some more gas in the tank.

Neither are the kind of fighters that have that preternatural one-shot KO power, but both have great skillsets that should make for a tantalizing technical affair for the aficionados of the sweet science out there.

I think here’s something to be said for momentum, and I think that squarely favors Plant here. He has the youth edge, can sustain a champion-caliber output for a twelve round affair, and maintains a confluence of defensive savvy and controlled aggression across his fights.

The odds on this bout going over 8 and a half rounds are -105, while odds on this fight ending prior to that are situated at -125. I lean more towards the over than the under here.

Ultimately, I think Plant vs Truax will be determined by the judges. I think there’s value in pursuing prop bets on this one going the distance (+230) and a prop bet for Plant to win via points/decision (+210).

Truax will show a level of grit and durability, but I think that Plant will put on a clinic en route to a lopsided win across all three scorecards.

Pick: Caleb Plant (-5000)
