- Eubank Jr is a -260 favorite to come through in this high stakes, high-pressure situation
- After two prior bids did not work out, can Korobov finally win a world title?
Chris Eubank Jr vs Matt Korobov is one of many exciting title fights set to go this weekend at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY. This prizefight will precede the Charlo vs Hogan title bout in the main event. Eubank Jr and Korobov will lock horns for the interim WBA middleweight world title.
The twelve-round bout could have tremendous implications on what the 160-pound title picture looks like in 2020. The odds for the fight and my sweet science analysis are below.
Eubank Jr vs Korobov Odds
Fighter | Odds |
---|---|
Chris Eubank Jr | -260 |
Matt Korobov | +200 |
Odds taken Dec. 4.
The high stakes in this bout go beyond the interim hardware. The winner of this bout positions himself as the WBA mandatory challenger for Canelo Alvarez. This would not only be a high-level contest but the winner of this fight could secure a fight with arguably the biggest star in modern boxing.
The winner could also secure a future date with the winner of the main event bout between Charlo and Hogan. I see Eubank Jr positioning himself for a big future payday.
Eubank Jr Extends Win Streak to Three
Korobov has gone winless in the last year. A loss to the aforementioned Charlo followed by a draw against Immanuwel Aleem in May 2019. The Charlo loss was quite controversial, though, and many thought Korobov should have gotten the nod from the judges.
The middleweight landscape could have been a great deal different, but really, it conveys the level Korobov can operate at on a good night. Korobov has been professionally prizefighting for over a decade and believes he has superior technique to his opponent. He respects Eubank Jr greatly but he thinks his slight edge in experience will be a determining factor in the bout.

Conversely, Eubank Jr is riding back to back wins. His last victory came over James DeGale and earned him the IBO world super-middleweight gold. Eubank Jr is looking to add to that collection this coming weekend.
Coming down from 168 pounds to 160 has been favorable for Eubank Jr, who feels like middleweight is a more natural fit for him. Eubank did have a discouraging loss to George Groves a few fights back, but has seemingly learned from the experience and rebounded well.
Eubank Jr vs Korobov Tale of the Tape
28-2 | Record | 28-2-1 |
21 | Knockouts | 14 |
5’11 | Height | 5’11 |
72.5″ | Reach | 70.5″ |
James DeGale, Avni Yildirim, Arthur Abraham | Significant Wins | Jose Uzcategui, Derek Edwards, Scott Sigmon |
orthodox | Stance | southpaw |
Eubank Jr will be making his American debut this weekend. Korobov has had all but one of his prizefights on US soil. The familiarity of his surroundings coupled with the southpaw stance of Korobov are interesting factors to consider.
The edges Eubank Jr has can be found in his reach advantage and his superior KO rate. He has more stopping power (75-percent knockout rate) than his opponent who sits at a 50-percent knockout rate. I see Eubank Jr scoring the TKO victory inside of ten rounds.
Pick: Chris Eubank Jr (-260)
