These 160 pounders are firing up some of the Charlo detractors out there.

Individuals who get frustrated hearing the WBC champ talk about wanting to fight big names in the division but then he continually takes on overmatched and unheralded title contenders.

Jermall Charlo’s Championship Resume

Jermall Charlo has maintained his hold on the gold since April 2018 and aims to make his fifth successful title defense in a few days.

Charlo is the undefeated champ and hopes that notching his 32nd pro win here will jettison him towards a big fight with a GGG or Canelo.

Jermall Charlo’s last outing saw him garner a unanimous decision win against the well-regarded Sergiy Derevyanchenko in September.

This upcoming contest is taking place in Charlo’s hometown, and the multi-division champion is additionally motivated by the billing of this event as a Juneteenth celebration.

Who Is Juan Macias Montiel?

Juan Macias Montiel is fourth in the WBC rankings, and despite being a massive underdog here, he seems galvanized by the moment more than discouraged by it.

The sole stoppage loss of his career came in a welterweight bout against Jaime Munguia. Juan Macias Montiel moved up to middleweight thereafter and has gone unbeaten across his last four straight.

Montiel’s last bout saw him halt James Kirkland in the first frame of their December fight.

Both combatants have the same amount of total stoppage victories, but the finishing rates read differently.

Montiel has a one hundred percent finishing rate across all of his professional wins. Charlo has a more than respectable 71 percent stoppage rate, but it’s hard to beat a flawless stretch of stoppages.

I think Charlo will have a size advantage on Montiel. I can see the champ collecting intel on the challenger throughout and going with a volume heavy approach in the mid to later rounds to chip away at the contender.

This prizefight is scheduled for twelve rounds, but I don’t see this one being decided via the judges’ scorecards.

I think there’s some decent value in going with a prop bet on this contest not going the distance. Also, in my estimation, there’s value in going with prop bets regarding Charlo winning via KO or TKO and Charlo winning between rounds seven and nine.
