Who Mike Tyson will fight next is a topic that many will be pontificating after tonight. After Roy Jones Jr and Mike Tyson competed to a draw, there are many question marks that still remain for both.

Once it had gone the distance, I was theorizing that Tyson would get the nod on the judges’ scorecard. Surprisingly, the contest was ruled as a draw when all was said and done. Iron Mike looked great relative to his age and considering he had been out of the ring for 15 years.

Roy Jones Jr’s Path after Tyson

I had theorized before this fight that Roy Jones Jr would take this thing the full distance and end up winning via decision. Once the dust settled on the bout, I’m not sure there was a round I would confidently and comprehensively give to the multi-division world titlist.

Though the finish did not result in a conclusive winner, I still think Roy Jones Jr has a clear path for his next opponent. A legend from a  different combat sport who many pundits and fans have wanted to see him fight for years.

The road that lies ahead for Roy Jones Jr is a compelling one albeit a likely shorter one. I do not think Roy Jones Jr performed nearly as well as Tyson did, but still some residual intrigue all the same.

I can see Tyson having a few more bouts, whereas I don’t know many options there are for Roy Jones Jr. I think Anderson Silva is the clear path for Jones Jr next.

Who Mike Tyson Will Fight Next

As far as what’s next for Iron Mike, I think he has a lot more options than Roy Jones Jr. I think overall Tyson looked like he had the superior gas tank, dictated the pace of the bout, and I thought he won handily despite the curious perception of the judges.

One big opponent I can see for Tyson is Evander Holyfield. The two have competed twice in some of the most prolific heavyweight bouts of all time. The second bout between the two being the infamous ear bite moment for Iron Mike.

The comeback videos Holyfield has put out in recent months lend credence to the idea that he’ll be mounting his own comeback sooner than later.

Some other adversaries for Kid Dynamite include names like Anthony Joshua, Tyson Fury, and Bob Sapp. This going off of prior interviews where Mike Tyson articulated different opponents he’d like to collide within exhibitions.

The rumblings of him getting some bare-knuckle boxing offers are something I’m kind of bullish on. Tyson could be itching to knuckle up because he’s a historian of the game. He respects the Broughton’s Rules era of the sport with names like John L Sullivan ruling the roost. I don’t think the fascination will be enough for him to toe the line and make his own foray into BKFC though.

In summation, I don’t think they do a Tyson vs Jones Jr rematch at least not right away. Perhaps down the line, but both men have multiple options beyond doing a sequel to this bout.
