Roy Jones Jr Getting Overlooked?
A ton of attention has understandably been heaped onto Iron Mike as he awaits his comeback after around 15 years of inactivity. The thing is though, Roy Jones Jr has a stellar resume with world championships from middleweight up until heavyweight.
Seeing the Tyson-centric opinions of some reminded me of a quote from Roy Jones Jr himself, “Y’all must have forgot”.

This eight-round exhibition bout has rounds that are two-minute increments as opposed to the usual three. Also, no judges will be scoring this bout, and there will be no official winner due to the aforementioned exhibition status.
The youngest heavyweight champion in history takes on the four-division world titlist when Tyson and Jones Jr clash.
Roy Jones Jr believes the two minute round increments favor Tyson’s hard-charging style more than Jones Jr’s defensive-minded, elusive offense that plays out well over long-form fights.
The Return of Iron Mike
As I had theorized, the line has moved on this fight to where Tyson is a more sizable favorite days out from fight night.
There’s something about the aura Tyson still radiates and the energy surrounding an upcoming Mike Tyson bout that is like nothing else.
Highest of highs. Lowest of lows.
There will never be another boxer quite like Mike Tyson…

The power advantage definitely favors Tyson, but the speed edge would go to Jones Jr in my estimation. This is a great stylistic clash even though the fight is over a decade too late in the eyes of many.
Tyson vs Jones Jr Tale of the Tape

Trevor Berbick, Michael Spinks, Larry Holmes | Significant Wins | Bernard Hopkins, James Toney, Antonio Tarver |

Ultimately, I foresee Tyson coming out super aggressive from the beginning. I think he’ll pursue Jones Jr in bursts but won’t be able to sustain a pace like Jones Jr should be able to.
I think Mike Tyson will have flashes of that old brilliance, but I think Roy Jones Jr will be able to largely lead the dance as the fight progresses.
Pick: Roy Jones Jr (+175)
Undercard: Jake Paul vs Nate Robinson
Fighter | Odds on Nov 23 | Current Odds |
---|---|---|
Jake Paul | -185 | -225 |
Nate Robinson | +155 | +165 |
Odds taken Nov. 26
Polarizing Youtube star Jake Paul takes on former NBA sensation/Boxing neophyte Nate Robinson this weekend.
This cruiserweight attraction is a curious one because oddsmakers are favoring Paul’s boxing experience (one amateur and one pro bout), while Robinson has a superior resume on a broader level of athletic accomplishment.
Who makes a statement?

In the end, I think Nate Robinson will be able to get it done.
Though they’re very different sports, I feel like the level of training he had in past basketball endeavors can prepare him to be a capable enough boxer to best one of the Paul brothers.
Pick: Nate Robinson (+165)
