After a surprise setback in their first fixture (2-1 at PSV Eindhoven), Manchester United can’t afford another loss in the UEFA Champions League. United will host German side Wolfsburg tomorrow at Old Trafford (2:45 PM Eastern) hoping to extend their EPL win-streak to the international stage.

After the loss to PSV, the Red Devils have responded in a big way, winning three straight in the Premier League. The offense finally looks to have found its stride, scoring nine goals over the three games, including a three-spot against Sunderland last weekend (3-0).

Thanks to Man City dropping two of their last three, United now sit atop the EPL table with 16 points, one clear of the Citizens.

Manager Louis van Gaal is obviously pleased with the way things have been going, but sees more room for improvement.

“We have made progressions in the maturity of the team and the balance of the team,” van Gaal said to the BBC. “We have improved when we compare with the team of last year. We have to improve to win the Premier League title or a tournament like the Champions League. We are still improving, and I can see that every week.”

Tomorrow’s opponent, Wolfsburg, have had the opposite dynamic so far this season. They beat CSKA Moscow in the first UCL fixture (1-0), but have struggled to find consistency in the Bundesliga, earning only 12 points in seven games (3-3-1) and falling behind league-leading Bayern Munich by nine points.

They were crushed by Bayern, 5-1, last Tuesday and then only managed to draw Hannover at home on the weekend (1-1).

Wolfsburg have never won on English soil in four tries. Just last season, they visited Everton in Europa League action and got crushed, 4-1. They also lost twice to United during the 2009-10 Champions League Group Stage. With United’s offense finally firing, take the Red Devils to earn their fourth win in a row.
