It’s a chance for either the Campbell Fighting Camels (14-17, 8-10 CAA) or the Stony Brook Seawolves (17-14, 9-9 CAA) to play giant killer. A win on day two of the Coastal Athletic Association Conference Tournament vaults either team into a matchup with the top-ranked UNC Wilmington Seahawks.

Neither team enters the CAA particularly strong, but the online sportsbooks like the Fighting Camels in Saturday’s college basketball odds.

Campbell opens as a 3.5-point favorite on a neutral site, and picking them to win outright comes with -162 odds.

Stonybrook offers the same -110 odds but gets the 3.5 points on the spread, while the best value bet is to take the Seawolves outright, which pays out at +134. The total sits at 147.5 points.

Campbell vs Stony Brook Prediction

  • Under 147.5 points (-110) at FanDuel

Both schools enter the tournament needing a boost, and one will get it with a win on Saturday.

Campbell enters on a winning note, ending the regular season with a 90-72 thumping of North Carolina A&T, but that stands more the outlier than the norm down the stretch.

That snapped a three-game losing slide, where the Fighting Camels, ranked second in scoring in the CAA at 78.9 points per game, was held to 68 points or lower.

What is encouraging, though, is that they did play UNC Wilmington tough, losing in a tightly contest 73-68 decision.

Stony Brook enters the tournament having lost three straight, including being held under 60 points in the final two losses to Hofstra and Towson.

Stony Brook finished the year as one of the Top 5 scoring defenses in CAA, allowing just 70.4 points per game. They must also want the rematch with UNCW: they lost 75-71 to the top seed on Jan 10.

These teams met once in the regular season, back on January 29, with Stony Brook winning at home 81-69.

There wasn’t much separating the teams, with the Seawolves shooting it slightly better at 49% from the field, winning the rebound battle (+8) and converting 11 turnovers into 18 points.

Scoring has not been either team’s strength down the stretch, though, and that’s why my Campbell vs Stony Brook pick is targeting the Under.

The Fighting Camels have seen the Under cash in seven of the last eight. Stony Brook has gone Under in four of its last seven, but context matters here: the other three games that went over had a total of 145.5 points or lower.

That high scoring line seems a little high for where these teams are now.
