After a spectacular pair of College Football Playoff semifinal games, it’s down to the Georgia Bulldogs (14-0) vs the TCU Horned Frogs (13-1) for the National Championship.

TCU was a top-five scoring team in the country, putting up 41.1 points per game, one of only six teams in the FBS to do it. They showed they could hang with the big boys, beating Michigan 51-45.

Georgia is no slouch, dropping 39.4 points per contest (8th), while sporting the fifth-best scoring defense in the country, allowing just 14.8 points per game. That defense was lit up by the Buckeyes, though the Bulldogs rallied to win 42-41.

Stetson Bennett Passing Yards

Stetson Bennett had his best game of the season against Ohio State, going 23-for-34 for 398 yards, with three TD passes and an interception.

It was the first time in six games that he’s crossed the 300+ yard plateau, but he should have plenty of opportunity against a TCU defense that ranks 83rd in pass yards, giving up 235.6 per game.

Last week at the Fiesta Bowl, the Horned Frogs surrendered 343 passing yards to JJ McCarthy.

Georgia was held to 135 yards rushing by Ohio State, but the Buckeyes are statistically on another level than TCU, ranking 25th to the Horned Frogs’ 70th.

That doesn’t mean the Bulldogs won’t throw. They’re top 20 in both rushing and passing offense. In a game where the scoreboard bulbs will likely get a workout, Bennett will have to spin it well for the Bulldogs to win.

Daijun Edwards Rushing Yards

A little surprised that Edwards’ rushing figure is this low.

As mentioned in our Georgia vs TCU player prop bets, Edwards has gone for 55 yards of more in three straight games. Against Ohio State, he had 58 yards on eight carries, a healthy 7.3 yards per tote.

The Horned Frogs surrendered 119 yards to Michigan backup Donovan Edwards on 23 carries last week.

While Edwards works in a time share with Kenny McIntosh and Kendall Minton, he averaged just under 10 carries per game this season, and should see enough work — especially if Georgia can get out in front — to get past this number.

Johnson & Bowers Receiving Yards

Quentin Johnson has been on fire lately. Despite taking the L in the Big 12 Championship game, he shredded Kansas State with four catches for 139 yards. He turned in a stellar performance in the Fiesta Bowl, hauling in six balls for 163 yards, including an electric 76-yard catch and run to the house.

Georgia had problems containing Ohio State receivers in the Peach Bowl. Star receiver Marvin Harrison Jr caught five passes for 106 yards and a pair of TD’s, while Emeka Egbuka had eight grabs for 112 yards and a score of his own.

Johnson should be a go-to target for Max Duggan on Monday.

As for Bowers, he’s picked up his game lately. He had four catches for 64 yards against Ohio State, after a 6-catch, 81-yard, 1-TD performance over LSU in the SEC Championship.

Prior to those games, he’d failed to crack 60 yards receiving in six of seven contests.

TCU held both Michigan TE’s Colston Loveland (36 yards) and Luke Schoonmaker (32 yards) under this receiving total last week. In fact, no tight end has passed this figure vs the Horned Frogs since Texas Longhorns’ TE Ja’Tavion Sanders had 71 yards in a game on Nov 12.
