Book Will Make Plays With His Legs

Notre Dame senior Ian Book is a very mobile quarterback, who rushed for 67 yards in the Irish’s previous win over the Tigers. He’s racked up 40-plus yards on the ground in eight straight games and is sure to rely on his mobility once again in his biggest game of the season.

Clemson is sure to make some adjustments under DC Brent Venables and will look to bring plenty of pressure on Book. The Tigers rank second in the nation in sacks (38) and will want to prevent the talented QB from making big-time plays. Book is at his best when he’s extending plays by escaping the pressure and relying on his mobility in the pocket.

We’ve seen it multiple times in big games where Book takes things into his own hands by scrambling to save drives. Expect that element of Book’s skill set to once again be a big factor Saturday against Clemson’s pass rush.

Lawrence Will Target Powell Often

Clemson freshman QB DJ Uiagalelei thew for 439 yards against this Notre Dame defense in South Bend. His favorite target in that game was senior receiver Cornell Powell, who had six receptions for 161 yards.

Amari Rodgers gets all the buzz when it comes to receivers on the Tigers, but Powell has quietly become a very key piece in this offense. The breakout receiver has averaged 133 receiving yards per contest in the last four weeks and has developed great chemistry with fellow senior Trevor Lawrence.

Clemson was only able to run the ball for 34 yards against the Irish in the first matchup, so you can expect the Tigers to throw the ball often against this stifling Irish rush defense. Powell leads all Tigers’ receivers with 16.7 yards per reception and is targeted 44% of the time on throws to the outside.

Expect Powell to play a big role against an Irish defense that is much more susceptible in the air than they are on the ground.

Who Finds the End Zone?

There were six different players who carried or received the ball in the endzone in the Nov. 7th game in South Bend. It’s hard to justify the Travis Etienne anytime TD price tag when you consider he was stifled in the first matchup and is going up against a Notre Dame rush defense allowing under 100 yards per game.

Notre Dame’s Kyren Williams, however, is the catalyst of this Notre Dame offense and is definitely worth his -200 price tag to get in the end zone. He has 20-plus carries in three of his last four games and is also a threat as a pass catcher. He had three rushing touchdown vs Clemson in South Bend and is also a solid play at +600 to score the first TD.

Lawrence will primarily target Powell or Rodgers, making them both good plays to score a TD. Notre Dame’s target volume is more spread out, so it could be worth it to take a flier on someone like Ben Skowronek to score the first TD. He leads the receiver group with five TDs and has been targeted an average of 6.3 times in the last three weeks.
