The Sun Belt Conference Championship is on the line when Coastal Carolina and Louisiana square off for the second time this season on Saturday, December 19th. The Chanticleers are listed as 3-point favorites after winning a close game over the Ragin Cajuns back in October.

Coastal Carolina (11-0) is looking to cap off its incredible season with a shot at a New Year’s Six Bowl game, while Louisiana (9-1) has bowl aspirations of its own and will be eager to avenge the loss from earlier this year.

Cajuns Out for Revenge

The Ragin Cajuns will have revenge on their mind when they take the field at Brooks Stadium on Saturday to face the Chanticleers for the second time this season. Louisiana lost a close 30-27 game at home to the Chanticleers back in October.

Despite being dominated in time of possession, the Ragin Cajuns never trailed by more than one possession and lost on a 40-yard field goal by Massimo Biscardi with seconds left.

The positive for the Cajuns is they were able to gain 413 yards of offense on this Coastal Carolina defense, including 240 yards on the ground. They will also have linebacker Ferrod Gardner back for this game after he missed the contest in Lafayette. He’s second on the team in total tackles and has also racked up a few sacks.

Louisiana has had a chance to rest as they haven’t played a game since Dec. 4th at Appalachian State. There could be a rust concern given the long layoff, but the Cajuns are no strangers to the Sun Belt Championship game. They’ve lost this game in back-to-back years to the Mountaineers and will be eager to get over the hump in 2020.

Chanticleers Have Had Dream Season

Coastal Carolina will be looking to stay unbeaten and tie the school record for most wins in a single season when they take on the Ragin Cajuns for the second time this season. The Chanticleers have covered the spread in seven of their last nine games and hold a signature win over BYU. They took down the Cougars as 10-point underdogs back on Dec. 5th.

The Chanticleers are led on offense by freshman QB Grayson McCall, who has thrown for 2,170 yards and 23 touchdowns with just two interceptions this season. The poise he showed on the final drive last weekend against Troy, moving the team 75 yards down the field for the winning score, exemplifies his potential in big-time situations.

The Chanticleers narrowly escaped with a 42-38 victory over the Trojans, but this was an obvious letdown spot for the Chanticleers coming off the big BYU victory. Coming into the game, the Chanticleers’ stingy defense had allowed an average of just over 12 points in their previous six games.

What’s the Best Bet?

UL has just as much talent as the Chanticleers, but it’s hard to bet against this cinderella team. Coastal Carolina has been absolutely dominant on both sides of the ball and have already proven they are capable of controlling the clock against this Louisiana squad.

This line has dropped half a point after opening with Coastal -3.5, which presents value considering the game is being played in Conway. Both quarterbacks should help their teams put up points, but the stingy Chants defense is just a little bit better than the Cajuns’ unit.

App State gashed this susceptible UL rush defense for almost 200 yards in Week 14, and Coastal running back CJ Marable and the mobile McCall were key factors in the original matchup. Expect that to be the difference Saturday.

Pick: Coastal Carolina -3.0 (-110)
