After a stunning defeat that dropped them out of the Top 25, the Boise State Broncos (0-1) will host the Eastern Washington Eagles (0-1), an FCS school playing out of the Big Sky Conference.

The college football odds have the Broncos as monster favorites, as they were perfect at home last season.

Kickoff is set for Friday night 9pm ET from Albertsons Stadium in Boise, Idaho, with FS1 providing the broadcast coverage.

Eastern Washington vs Boise State Odds

The Eagles are massive 31.5-point road underdogs and an extremely long +1800 on the moneyline. The Broncos are a wildly short -7000 on the moneyline, and the total sits at 55.5 points.

This line has continued moving in BSU’s direction, as the Broncos were favored by less than 30 points as recently as Friday morning.

Boise State Blasted vs South Florida

No one saw Boise State getting upset in the manner they did against South Florida. That loss matched their entire regular season loss total from a year ago, and that game at the hands of #7 Oregon.

After an opening drive TD, South Florida proceeded to score 34 unanswered and romp — the school’s first win over a ranked opponent since 2016.

That’s their lowest scoring output since losing 38-87 to Washington in the Las Vegas Bowl … in 2019.

We’ll see how the Broncos respond. Last season, they obliterated their non-conference schedule, hanging 56 on both Georgia Southern and Portland State, while dropping Washington State 45-24.

Eagles Can’t Get Past Cardinals

There’s really little chance of an upset here, especially since Eastern Washington was busy getting pasted by Incarnate Word 31-21 last week.

The Eagles allowed the Cardinals to throw for 332 yards, while the run game churned out 131 yards and three rushing scores, in a game that shouldn’t have been 21-21 at the end of the game.

QB Jared Taylor struggled for Eastern Washington, throwing for just 183 yards, and only a decent run attack, totaling 107 yards on 23 carries and three scores kept this one close.

The level-up here should be noticeable: Boise State was among the top teams in the nation, ranking second in points allowed in Mountain West, while leading the conference in scoring at 37.3 points per game.

• Pick: Boise State -31.5 (-115 at Caesars)

Clearly, this Broncos team isn’t the same as last year, most notably with stud RB Ashton Jeanty now in the NFL. But Maddux Madsen is a solid pivot, and I don’t see him faltering in this one.

This isn’t a must-win for the Broncos: it’s a must-look excellent. Only domination will prove South Florida was just a blip, and they’re ready to compete for the conference crown again.

Eastern Washington was clunky offensively and struggled to look crisp against a fellow FCS school. That doesn’t bode well when lining up against an FBS squad like Boise State next, who were embarrassed last week.

They’re eager to let some frustrations out in their home opener. You might want to consider adding the Over to this bet, because Boise will be relentless Friday night.
