It’s been a nice story for the Miami Hurricanes, but Monday’s homecoming for the College National Championship has all the makings of a nightmare when they clash with the top-seeded Indiana Hoosiers.
Indiana has absolutely stomped out both Alabama and Oregon en route to its first title game, and not many would rate Miami’s lineup on par with either of those teams the Hoosiers have left on the side of the highway.
That being said, I do see some interesting player props you should target on the Miami side, to try and puncture the no. 2 rush defense in the nation.
That’s part of my set of go-to Miami vs Indiana player prop picks below. A reminder, you can find these and the rest of the wagers to set your ticket in the college football odds.
Miami vs Indiana Player Props

Miami vs Indiana Player Props Bet #1: Fernando Mendoza TD Passes
- Fernando Mendoza Over 1.5 TD Passes (-172 at FanDuel)
Usually, I’d offer another wager that provides more value, but I don’t think there’s more of a sure thing than Fernando Mendoza throwing at least two TD passes in the National Championship Game.
Fernando Mendoza Last 5 Games
He’s picked apart a very good Oregon defense, tying a season-high with five TD passes, the third time this season that he’s hit that number.
Mendoza has thrown for at least two scores in four of his last five games, missing a perfect five by throwing for just one TD pass against Ohio State in the Big Ten championship.
Miami allowed the second-fewest passing scores in the ACC this year, and they’ve held each QB they’ve faced in the CFP to less than two TD passes. Don’t let that persuade you — Mendoza is the best pivot in the college game and it will show on Monday.
Miami vs Indiana Player Props Bet #2: Malachi Toney Rushing Yards
- Malachi Toney Over 8.5 Rushing Yards (-114 at FanDuel)
Indiana’s run defense has been lights out, and save for Oregon’s Dierre Hill ripping off a 71-yard run to open the second half (in a game Indiana was already up by 28 points), there’s been almost no daylight for any running backs against that Hoosier front.
Miami doesn’t own a dominant rush attack, but they need it to keep defenses honest, and to allow QB Carson Beck to spin.
Which is why this prop makes so much sense. Indiana flies to the ball, so keeping them honest with a reverse or jet sweep to the shifty Malachi Toney has to be in the playbook for this matchup.
While this was on a catch vs Ole Miss, it just shows how little space he needs to weave through a defense.
Over the last 10 games, Toney has rushed for at least nine yards to win this prop seven times, including 11 yards on the ground in the win over Ole Miss.
If Miami stays vanilla with the run game, it will go nowhere. Toney runs is the variance they need.
Miami vs Indiana Player Props Bet #3: Omar Cooper Jr Anytime TD
- Omar Cooper Jr Anytime TD (+140 at FanDuel)
Here’s a chance to take value over the obvious pick. If it feels like Indiana receiver Elijah Sarratt lives in the end zone, you’re not far off, as the senior picked up another two scores in the blowout of Oregon, upping his total to 15 TD’s on the year.
Sarratt has hit paydirt at least once in nine straight games, and he’s only been held off the scoresheet twice so far that season. That’s also why he’s the only pass catcher with minus odds to score.
Instead, I suggest taking a flier on WR Omar Cooper Jr. The junior has quietly put together his own impressive set of end zone trips: his TD catch against Oregon makes it six straight games he’s hit paydirt and 10 times in the last 12 games.
You can also catch him at +140 odds. With both of them bound for the end zone at Hard Rock, place your hard-earned money on the better return.
