  • #24 Texas A&M travels to Gainesville to face the unranked Florida Gators in a Week 3 SEC showdown
  • After being 3.5-point favorites earlier this week, the Aggies are now only favored by 2.5 points due to key injuries

The Texas A&M Aggies (1-1) travel to the Swamp to take on the Florida Gators (1-1) in a compelling Week 3 SEC matchup on Saturday, September 14, 2024. This clash of maroon and orange is set to kick off at 3:30 p.m. ET and will be televised on ABC for a national audience.

The oddsmakers have installed the Aggies as 3-point road favorites, with the total set at 47.5 points. Both teams are looking to make an early statement in conference play and establish themselves as contenders in the always-competitive SEC.

Here is a look at the Texas A&M vs Florida odds, along with our betting prediction.

Texas A&M vs Florida Odds

Team Spread Moneyline Total
Texas A&M Aggies -3 (-110) -150 Over 47.5 (-110)
Florida Gators +3 (-110) +130 Under 47.5 (-110)

Texas A&M’s -150 moneyline price in the college football Week 3 odds gives the Aggies implied probability to win the game on the road.

The line has moved a half point in Florida’s direction, likely due to the questionable status of Texas A&M quarterback Conner Weigman, who was listed as having a 50% chance to play in tonight’s SEC-mandated availability report.

Additionally, starting nickel Tyreek Chappell and backup safety Trey Jones are listed as out, while starting linebacker Scooby Williams remains questionable. These potential absences could have a significant impact on the Aggies’ chances of covering the spread.

Texas A&M vs Florida H2H

Date Result
Nov 5, 2022 Florida 41, Texas A&M 24
Oct 10, 2020 Texas A&M 41, Florida 38
Oct 14, 2017 Texas A&M 19, Florida 17
Sep 8, 2012 Florida 20, Texas A&M 17

The Aggies and Gators have split their last four meetings, with each team winning two games apiece. In their most recent matchup in 2022, Florida came out on top with a convincing 41-24 victory in College Station.

Aggies Betting Analysis

The biggest question mark for the Aggies heading into this matchup is the health of sophomore quarterback Conner Weigman, who was listed as questionable with a 50% chance to play. If Weigman is unable to go, it would be a significant blow to Texas A&M’s offense.

Junior running back Le’Veon Moss has been a workhorse for the Aggies, rushing for 154 yards and three touchdowns on 29 carries. If Weigman is out, expect Moss to carry an even heavier load for the Aggies’ offense.

Moss carrying a heavier load could be worrisome considering the interior of the Aggies’ offensive line appears to be their biggest weakness. According to PFF, all three of Texas A&M’s starters on the interior offensive line earned sub-65.0 PFF grades in 2023.

Defensively, Texas A&M could be without starting nickel Tyreek Chappell, backup safety Trey Jones, and starting linebacker Scooby Williams. These potential absences are concerning for a unit that allowed just 10 points and 180 rushing yards to McNeese State in Week 2.

Gators Betting Analysis

The Gators’ quarterback situation has been a pleasant surprise after starter Graham Mertz went down with a concussion in Week 1. True freshman DJ Lagway stepped in and threw for a school-record 456 yards and three touchdowns against Samford in his collegiate debut.

Lagway’s performance has given the Gators’ offense a much-needed spark, and he will be looking to build on that success against a Texas A&M defense that could be missing some key players.

Senior running back Montrell Johnson Jr., meanwhile, has been a steady presence for the Gators, rushing for 173 yards and three touchdowns on 26 carries. On the outside, WR Eugene Wilson III has emerged as Lagway’s favorite target, hauling in 13 catches for 191 yards and a touchdown through two games.

Defensively, the Gators have struggled, allowing 41 points to Miami in Week 1 and 180 rushing yards to Samford in Week 2. However, they could catch a break if Texas A&M’s offensive line is unable to create holes for Moss and the Aggies’ running game.

Texas A&M vs Florida Prediction

Even if Weigman is able to go, I believe the Gators have the talent and home-field advantage to pull off the upset in this matchup. Florida’s offense has looked explosive with Lagway at the helm, and they should be able to find success against an Aggies defense that could be missing some key players.

On the other side, Texas A&M’s offense could struggle given the injury situation, putting even more pressure on Moss and the running game to carry the load. If the Aggies’ offensive line is unable to create holes and Florida’s defense can force some turnovers, it could be a long day for Texas A&M.

I’m taking the Gators to cover the 3-point spread at home and leaning towards the under in this matchup. I expect Florida’s defense to step up and make some plays, while the Aggies’ offense could struggle if Weigman is out and they become one-dimensional.

Best Spread Bet: Florida +3 (-110)

Best Total Bet: Under 47.5 (-110)
