Nobody had the Dayton Flyers in the Elite Eight, but they are confident they can knockout the best team in the country, the Florida Gators, when these two meet this Saturday at 6:09 PM ET, at the Fedex Forum.
Dayton has knocked out Ohio State, Syracuse, and Stanford; they are the Cinderella team of the tournament and they have no plans on slowing their rhythm down against Florida.
“We’re just very blessed and fortunate to be a team that can put themselves in this opportunity to play for a Final Four again,” Florida senior Patric Young said Friday. “Going to prepare and do the best we can, especially as a senior class, because it’s our last go-round to make it to that next step.”
The Gators haven’t lost in almost three months; they know it will be painful to end a great ride in this round.
“I can tell you it was just as painful in 2000 walking off the court losing the national championship game as it was losing last year in the Elite Eight,” coach Billy Donovan said. “So I don’t know if there’s any easy way because I think everybody this time of year is putting their heart and soul.”
Florida is a 10 points favorite over Dayton in this Elite Eight matchup. The Gators are 20-8 ATS in their last 28 NCAA Tournament games, and the Flyers are 13-3 ATS in their last 16 games as an underdog of 7.0-12.5.
