Thank goodness: 2020 is over. And while most of us are happy to see the pandemic-dominated year behind us, it will always be known as a memorable year. For Ariana Grande, it will go down as the year she got engaged to real estate agent boyfriend Dalton Gomez.

Just before the year ended, Grande posted an Instagram ‘photo dump’ on December 20 including photos of her and Gomez cuddling in quarantine in addition to an oh-so-casual mirror selfie sporting her new massive diamond rock. Surprise!

With Grande officially off the market in the pre-Christmas engagement announcement, fans and oddsmakers alike are wondering if this time around will end in Grande actually making it to the altar.

Without sounding cynical, we’ve seen Ariana engaged before. Look where that ended up. Only a few short years ago, Grande got engaged to Saturday Night Live star Pete Davidson only weeks after they started dating.

And, like most quickie engagements, that didn’t last. Grande and Davidson’s relationship exploded only five months after they first got together. Oops. Turned out 2018 wasn’t exactly her year.

But the past couple of years have been huge for Grande in terms of her career. She’s seen continuous success, which means her personal life has also gone through some changes.

With Grande and Gomez’s relationship heating up to an engagement so quickly, it’s clear she’s just as focused on her personal life as much as her artistry. So, will the pair marry within the next 8 1/2 months?

It’s doubtful. Not only is Covid-19 still raging (leaving the option for a storybook and well-attended wedding out the window), but Grande and Gomez still need time to plan this thing. This pair is young and excited and need tons of time to secure their A-list guest list. They also need more time together to make sure this is the right step.

After all, just because the ring is on the finger doesn’t mean the wedding is a surefire bet. Sorry, Pete.

Pick: Over 8 1/2 Months (-150)

Call Off Engagement -135

Have A Baby +500

Grande may have grown personally in recent years, but it’s hard to ignore her history of short-lived romances. So it’s understandable as to why many are expecting this engagement to fizzle.

She’s young, beautiful, funny, and talented. And no matter who she pairs up with, it doesn’t often seem to last long. Perhaps Grande’s list of exes includes individuals who can’t handle being with someone else who takes up all the limelight.

So that would make Gomez–a non-celebrity of types– the perfect pairing for the arena-packing superstore, right? While he’s not necessarily rivaling her in Grammys or chart-topping hits, his difference in lifestyle may end up tearing the two apart.

Even if Grande and Gomez do stay together, it’s hard to imagine that the pair will make 2021 the year they say “I do” or have a child together. Surely they have to take some things slow, right? That leaves calling the engagement off the most likely option. For their sake, let’s hope not.

But in terms of placing your bets, Ariana’s vibe just screams “young, wild, and free”– and that speaks volumes.

 Pick: Call Off Engagement (-135)
