And the Winner Is…

This big reveal on Neeson’s behalf comes right in time for the film industry’s biggest night of the year, the Academy Awards.

On February 24, not only will we have Rami Malek duking it out with Christian Bale for a trophy, but we can also anticipate a lengthy ceremony filled with boring speeches and a running time that will undoubtedly run beyond its allotted television slot.

To break up the dull atmosphere, presenters tend to use their screen time to crack jokes at current events in the industry. However, Neeson’s comments, including delusions of violence and racial prejudice, are far too dark to tackle within a comedic framework.

Considering his role in the upcoming action film Cold Pursuit, the lines between Neeson the screen actor and Neeson the human suddenly seem too sensitive given his personal views.

A Show Without a Host

This year will be the first time since 1989 that the Oscars will be presented without a host. Coincidentally, the reason for the lack of an emcee is similar to Neeson’s recent notable remarks.

Originally, comedian Kevin Hart was slated to present this year’s awards, but after a series of the comedian’s homophobic tweets were dug out, Hart pulled from the ceremony.

This year’s list of presenters includes a slew of comic talent, including Awkwafina, Tina Fey, Whoopi Goldberg, Amy Poehler, and Maya Rudolph.

Given these hilarious celebrities’ histories of pushing the envelope, the temptation to mention Neeson will be on the table, but it’s more likely that these stars will steer clear of his name.
