The Kentucky Derby is over, the roses have been run for, the big hats have been put back in the closet. Now, Always Dreaming and a host of other hopeful colts head to Maryland for the Preakness Stakes, the race famous for cancelling its BYOB policy in 2009 and a short-lived mascot called “Kegerator.”

Kentucky Derby-winner Always Dreaming will obviously be hoping to keep its Triple Crown campaign alive and enters the Preakness as a roughly 1/1 favorite. There are some great horses in the field, however, including Derby runner-up Lookin at Lee (11/1) and Classic Empire (9/2), who succumbed to a bad trip in Louisville. Plus a lot of the horses that are skipping the Preakness are heading straight to the Belmont. Look for the Belmont to continue its storied tradition of being a graveyard for Triple Crown hopefuls.

If it doesn’t rain at the Preakness, it will be interesting to see how Always Dreaming responds to dryer conditions. A horse that thrives in the slop can struggle against fast runners in the dry. Also of note: trainer Todd Pletcher decided to bring Always Dreaming to Pimlico a week early in a bid to tone down the aggression he showed at Churchill Downs.

The Run for the Black-Eyed Susans/chrysanthemums is shaping up to be a great one. Here are all the odds for the weekend, including a few parlays with our ever-entertaining Commander-in-Chief and Baltimore’s scorching hot boys of summer.
