One thing that appears to be certain about James Holzhauer – when he’s on Jeopardy!, he rarely appears to be in jeopardy.

The professional sports gambler from Las Vegas has extended his winning streak on the knowledge-based game show to 21, moving him into second on the Jeopardy! all-time list.

Will James Put Jennings in Jeopardy?

When it comes to longevity, Ken Jennings remains the king of Jeopardy. From June 2, 2004 through Nov. 29, 2004, Jennings won 74 consecutive games on the show.

The previous record for consecutive wins on Jeopardy! was eight.

Odds are against Holzhauer putting this kind of run together. His aggressive style, while essential in how quickly he’s been able to assemble over $1.5 million in earnings, will eventually be his undoing.

No is still listed as the favorite here, with good reason. Holzhauer won’t unseat Jennings in this instance.

Pick: No (-350)

He’s in the Money

For years, the $2,520,700 Jennings amassed over his 74-win streak was considered insurmountable. No one else until Holzhauer had ever managed to win more than 20 games in succession before going down to defeat.

Suddenly, Holzhauer looks poised to put Jennings’ mark in jeopardy.

Originally, Holzhauer was given -350 odds that he wouldn’t break the Jeopardy! earnings mark. Now, he’s favored to do so by the same odds. And we think he will.

Pick: Yes (-350)

How High Can He Go?

Holzhauer has blown away the Jeopardy! single-game earnings mark. On April 9th, he banked $110,914 to shatter Roger Craig’s single-game standard of $77,000. Holzhauer’s $131,127 winnings on April 17th bettered his own mark.

He’s banked $1,528,012 during his 20-episode tenure. His average earnings are $76,401 per game.  He owns the top-10 single-day earnings marks on the show

But $150,000 in one show? That’s going to be tough do to. Can’t see it happening.

Hall of Fame Hitter

Step aside Ted Williams. You never hit them like Holzhauer does.

According to research by the website FiveThirtyEight.com, the average Jeopardy! contestant answers questions correctly at a .280 average. Holzhauer has been hitting at a .586 clip.

The baseball world still looks up 1941, the year Williams batted .406 for the Boston Red Sox, as nirvana. Compared to that, Holzhauer is Pete Rose and Ty Cobb all rolled into one. But .586 still isn’t anywhere hear .900.

Pick: No (+120)

Who Will Bring About Holzhauer’s Waterloo?

It was a woman who stopped Jennings. Nancy Zerg beat him on November 30th, 2004.

It’s a man who’s come closest to toppling Holzhauer. Adam Levin lost to him by $18 on April 29th.

We predict it will be a man who ultimately stops this amazing run.
