  • Blast Pro Series Madrid kicks off May 10th
  • Astralis is heavily favored to win the event with odds of -165
  • Can anyone upset the Danes?

Blast Pro Series makes its way to Spain, May 10th and 11th to host their third event of 2019. Like every Blast Pro Series event there will be six teams in attendance, with each team playing against each other once in a round robin with the top two teams moving on to the finals.

Though Astralis struggled in the last Blast Pro Series in Miami, they come into Madrid as the odds-on favorite with -165 odds. Should you expect another disappointing performance from the Danish superteam, or will they be adding another event to their ever growing resume? First let’s take a look at the odds.

Will Astralis Capture Another Blast Pro Series Title?

It’s hard to remember the last time Astralis entered a tournament and didn’t end up hoisting a trophy over their head while confetti rained down on them, but it happened in Miami last month. After starting out in typical Astralis form winning both matches on Friday in convincing fashion, they lost every game on the second day of play and bowed out of the tournament with a very rare fifth place finish. A place they are not very familiar with considering it was almost a full calendar year after their last placing below top-4.

Astralis have won three Blast Pro Series titles so far and you can count on them adding a fourth.

It is extremely unlikely they come out in Madrid and another disappointing showing. They should probably be back to how they were before that one day of play in Miami, and I fully expect them to come out and dominate in typical Astralis form. They have won three Blast Pro Series titles so far and you can count on them adding a fourth by the time all is said and done in Madrid.

Pick: Astralis (-165)

A Two Horse Race for Second Place

There are only two teams who are a real threat to Astralis at Blast Pro Series Madrid, and they are the  only ones I could see reaching the finals. Both Na’vi and ENCE have performed at the highest level in 2019, with ENCE making it all the way to the final of IEM Katowice, and Na’vi finding a tournament win at StarSeries Season 7.

The Finnish squad has played against Astralis twice so far in 2019, the first being in the finals in Katowice where they fell 2-0 despite a valiant effort on Train, and the second time in a best-of-one at Blast Pro Series Sao Paulo that saw them lose by the closest of margins 16-14. They have the stuff to hang in there with the Danes, and they certainly can beat the four other teams in Madrid, so they have a very good chance of playing for the chip after barely missing out on the finals in Sao Paulo.

Na’vi, on the other hand, is a team that has been battling it out with Astralis for about a year now, finding themselves in the finals of three events against the Danish titans, winning zero of those times. Though they haven’t been able to take down the big dogs in the finals, they have managed to beat them in the group stage or playoffs in a few tournaments, so they are definitely capable of beating the Danes.

It’s hard to call who will end up in the finals of Blast Pro Series Madrid because of the wacky format that it follows, because really any team can string together a few best-of-one wins and find themselves playing for the title. I would suspect ENCE will be the team that makes it to the big dance in the end, but Na’vi is certainly also worth taking a look at.

Picks: Astralis (-500), ENCE (+135)
