  • The League of Legends 2019 World Championship Main Event begins on October 12th from the Verti Music Hall in Berlin
  • Hong Kong Attitude, Splyce, Clutch Gaming and DAMWON Gaming all qualified for the Main Event through the Play-In Stage
  • North America find themselves in tough shape to advance to playoffs following the Group Stage draw

The Main Event of the 2019 League of Legends World Championship finally gets started on October 12th. The 16 best teams from around the world compete in a double round robin group stage with eight teams advancing to the playoffs. The LoL World Championship odds currently list SK Telecom T1 as the favorites to win it all.

Group A Odds

Team Odds to Reach Playoffs Odds to Win Group
G2 Esports -1600 -110
Griffin -1000 +110
Cloud9 +350 +1000
Hong Kong Attitude +3000 +10000

*All odds taken 10/09/19

Can Cloud9 Escape Groups Yet Again?

Group A is the most explosive of all four groups. The favorite to win the group is G2 esports who many think will win the entire tournament. G2’s one weakness is their sporadic nature in a best of one which could come into effect against Cloud9 and Griffin. Cloud9 has routinely made it out of the group stage but this is likely their toughest group to date. Their main hope is that Griffin falls back to their routine of cracking under pressure.

All three teams are aggressive and have very unique champion picks at their discretion. This group will be the most fun to watch and in the end, the favorites will likely prevail with C9 getting knocked out of Worlds in the group stage.

Picks: To Win Group – G2 Esports (-110), To Reach Playoffs – G2 (-1600) & Griffin (-1000)

Group B Odds

Team Odds to Reach Playoffs Odds to Win Group
FunPlus Phoenix -10000 -1200
Splyce +125 +1200
J Team +160 +1600
GAM Esports +200 +1800

A Free Ride for FPX

Group B is by far the easiest out of all the groups. The best team in China, FunPlus Phoenix, enter as heavy favorites to win the group and shouldn’t have any issues against Splyce, J Team or GAM Esports. The real race is for second place. Splyce barely survived a best of five against the Unicorns of Love in the Play-In Stage and now there are some concerns about how they’ll hold up in group stage.

Last year at Worlds, three out of the four teams that qualified through Play-Ins made it into the final eight, and Splyce should be able to follow suit. If they were in any other group they’d be in trouble. GAM Esports possess upset potential as their jungler Levi has dominated on the World stage before.

Picks: To Win Group – FunPlus Phoenix (-1200), To Reach Playoffs – FunPlus Phoenix (-10000) & Splyce (+125)

Group C Odds

Team Odds to Reach Playoffs Odds to Win Group
SK Telecom T1 -700 +120
Royal Never Give Up -200 +180
Fnatic -120 +250
Clutch Gaming +3300 +6600

Fnatic’s Worst Nightmare

This is the group of death. Fnatic should be devastated by this group draw. To make it to playoffs they’ll have to beat the three-time world champions in SKT and the second seed from the LPL in RNG. As the top Korean team, SKT should be able to hang on to top spot in this group. Fnatic and RNG have quite the history. At both Worlds 2017 and MSI 2018, RNG knocked Fnatic out of the tournament.

Fnatic appears to be much stronger this year as Europe has jumped into contention for the best region in the world. This is the year that Fnatic overcomes RNG. They were the only team that could challenge G2 in Europe and now they’ll topple their long-time nemesis in RNG.

Picks: To Win Group – SK Telecom T1 (+120), To Reach Playoffs SK Telecom T1 (-700) & Fnatic (-120)

Group D Odds

Team Odds to Reach Playoffs Odds to Win Group
Invictus Gaming -1000 +110
DAMWON Gaming -600 +120
Team Liquid +150 +500
ahq esports club +5000 +10000

North America’s Last Chance

North America’s strongest team finds themselves in a bit of a tough spot after DAMWON Gaming filled out this group. Despite DAMWON joining this group, Invictus Gaming are still somehow the favorites. Invictus Gaming are nowhere near the form  that they were in when they won Worlds last year.

This time they enter as the third seed from China after finishing the LPL Summer Season in sixth. On top of that, Team Liquid actually got the better of them back at MSI.

I think Team Liquid will advance over Invictus Gaming but both teams will get overtaken by DAMWON Gaming.

Picks: To Win Group – DAMWON Gaming (+120), To Reach Playoffs DAMWON (-600) & Team Liquid (+150)

Winners Group Odds

Group Odds to Win
Group C +160
Group A +275
Group D +330
Group B +350

Group C is the most stacked group thanks to SKT, RNG and Fnatic so C would be a good bet. However, I’m on the G2 hype train for this year’s World Championship. Even if G2 were to drop out early, Griffin has an outside chance of winning the tournament. I’ll take a shot at Group A and hope that G2 live up their expectations.

Pick: Group A (+275)
