It would be a stretch to declare the Twitch Rivals SuperGames an essential service.

However, if you’re like most folks, you’ve been jonesing for a sports fix for more than a fortnight. You might even be starting to twitch a little bit from the lack of competition to get excited about.

In this sense, the Twitch Rivals SuperGames will at least offer a morsel of entertainment to fill the void and whet that appetite for action.

This event pairs duos of professional athletes with pro gamers and game creators in Fortnite competition. Best of all, you can bet on it.

The team of Colorado Rockies infielder Brendan Rodgers and Washington Nationals pitching prospect Mason Denaburg are listed as +600 favorites to take the Twitch Rivals SuperGames title. They’re paired with Twitch partners Carley Gress and Hannah Reyes.

Big Money Up For Grabs

A cool $1 million in prize money earmarked for charitable causes is up for grabs in the Twitch Rivals SuperGames event.

The champions will awarded $150,000 for the charity of their choice. Second prize is a $100,000 charitable donation.

Virtually All Sports Represented

Athletes from baseball, hockey, basketball, football, soccer, tennis, rugby, even MMA, lacrosse and NASCAR were represented when the original field for the Twitch Rivals SuperGames was organized.

A semifinal event featuring just the athlete tandems was contested April 16 and more than 60 teams were eliminated. Among those falling by the wayside was Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill, who did so well in the recent NFL Madden tourney.

Other notables eliminated were Boston Bruins forward David Pastrnak, Winnipeg Jets forward Patrik Laine, Minnesota Twins pitcher Trevor May, golfer Bryson DeChambeau, tennis player Jack Sock, and NFLers Kyle Van Noy (Miami Dolphins), Jared Goff (Los Angeles Rams) and Keenan Allen (Los Angeles Chargers).

A draft was held April 21st to pair the surviving athlete pairs with pro Fortnight duos.

The format for the final is custom matchmaking (Arena Blitz Squads). The objective is to score as many points as possible through placements and eliminations. All of the action will be live streamed via Twitch.tv.

Twitch Rivals SuperGames Best Bet

Denaburg and Rodgers collected 72 points during qualifying, 24 better than any other team. However, every team starts at zero for the five-game final series of matches. Their partners both play for the Gen.G eSports team.

The odds board is dominated by baseball and hockey players. There are three pairings in the top eight qualifiers from each sport.

There’s also a hockey-baseball duo in Zach Aston-Reese of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Jameson Taillon of the Pittsburgh Pirates. The other top-eight pairing is the NFL brother duo of Graham (Denver Broncos) and Ryan Glasgow (Cincinnati Bengals).

Considering their performance to date, it might be difficult not to ride with Denaburg and Rodgers. And +600 is certainly a solid price for the chalk.

If it’s a sleeper you seek, consider fellow ballplayers Skylar Arias (Cleveland Indians) and Nick Marchese (Arizona Diamondbacks). They’re paired with Benjamin Lupo (aka DrLupo). Lupo holds the Fortnite ATV Trick Point World Record of 49,256,200 points.

Pick: Skylar Arias and Nick Marchese (+1200).
