- The Omega European Masters tees off Thursday, August 29th
- Solid field headlined by Rory McIlroy, Tommy Fleetwood & Sergio Garcia
- We’ve narrowed down the golfers with the best chance of emerging victorious
Just one week after taking home the prestigious FedEx Cup title for the second time in his career and the $15 million dollar payday, Rory McIlroy is back in action on the European Tour at the Omega European Masters.
McIlroy will be facing some pretty stiff competition, with Matthew Fitzpatrick attempting a hat-trick of consecutive victories at this tournament. Of note, historically this will be a closely contested battle, with there being a playoff in five of the last six editions, with the outlier being a single shot victory. (Danny Willett in 2015)

Fade on Rory McIlroy’s Chances at Omega European Masters
Rory McIlroy is riding high after posting an impressive victory at the FedEx Cup last Sunday, and with his odds to win this event microscopically low, I’d normally say he’s not worth investing in because he’ll be in party mode and not properly focused for this tournament.
Rory McIlroy had 25 drives 320+ yards this week.

He doesn’t have a ton of course history to lean on, though he’s finished second in 2008 & third in 2011 in his two appearances at this venue, so bet against him at your own peril.
With those extremely low odds of +350, however, you’re better off wagering on guys who have played here more and are hungrier – at least that should be the conventional wisdom – but Rory flies in the face of that often.
Matthew Fitzpatrick a Strong Bet to Three-Peat
The golfer I’d be most interested in wagering on is Matthew Fitzpatrick, who not only has won this tournament twice in a row but also enters this event playing some top quality golf.
Matthew Fitzpatrick’s Last 6 Tournaments
Tournament | Result |
---|---|
Scandinavian Invitation | 2nd |
WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational | T-4th |
The Open Championship | T-20th |
Scottish Open | T-14th |
Andalucia Masters | CUT |
BMW International Open | 2nd |
He got absolutely robbed last week at the Scandinavian Invitation, where a perfectly flush shot hit the flagstick and rolled back into a collection area, leading to bogey, where he’d eventually lose by one to Erik van Rooyen. He should find more success this week at a place he’s flat out dominated.

2019 Omega European Masters Best Value Picks
- Bernd Wiesberger (+3300): Sporting juicy odds despite winning twice in his last seven stroke play events, also posting a second place finish and hasn’t missed a cut since March.
- Sam Horsfield (+9000): Young English 22-year old hotshot is coming into his own as a professional, posting a T-3rd and T-10th finish in last two times teeing it up.
- Scott Hend (+25000): What better long shot golfer to bet on than Hend, a guy who finished second in this tournament two years in a row, falling in a playoff in both 2016 & 2017?
