The John Deere Classic is being replaced on the schedule this year by this week’s Workday Charity Open from July 9th-12th. Muirfield Village Golf Club will play host to this year’s new event.

It feels like since the return of the PGA Tour the favorite week in and out has been Bryson DeChambeau. There is a new top dog this week in Justin Thomas, with his playing partner Brooks Koepka nipping at his heels.

With a packed field in Ohio, check out which players will power by their three-ball group.

Justin Thomas +125
Brooks Koepka +150
Jason Day +290

All Odds Taken July 8th

Brooks Will Bring the Heat

The last time Brooks Koepka tee’d it up was in Harbour Town at the RBC Heritage Open a few weeks ago. He put on quite the display of ball striking and put together four rounds of 67-66-68-65 to finish solo seventh.

That week Koepka finished fifth in Total Driving, third in Ball Striking, and sixth in Greens in Regulation. Even though the 30-year-old took a few weeks off he should be poised for a big week in Ohio.

Even though this week isn’t a major, playing at Muirfield Village makes it feel like a prestigious tournament. As we know, Koepka has been at his strongest in bigger tournaments. Out of his seven PGA Tour victories, four of them have been major wins, and they have all been in the last four years.

Koepka has played very well at courses like Bethpage Black and Erin Hills, which are all located in the northern United States. Muirfield Village is also located in the northern part of the US and is compatible with the long-hitters games.

Betting against Justin Thomas and Jason Day isn’t always easy, however, in this three-ball matchup Koepka poses great value. Not to mention, Muirfield Village is a Bentgrass/Poa Annua mix – a type of course Koepka has excelled on.

Pick: Brooks Koepka (+150)

Cantlay/Spieth/Mickelson 3-Ball Matchup Odds

Golfer Odds
Patrick Cantlay +105
Jordan Spieth +200
Phil Mickelson +290

Cantlay at Muirfield Village

Although Patrick Cantlay has played just one event since the resumption of the PGA Tour, his recent track record at Muirfield Village is too good not to notice.

Cantlay claimed his second PGA Tour title last season at the Memorial Tournament which is played at Muirfield Village. In 2018, he finished fourth at the Memorial with a total score of 14-under par.

The numbers speak for themselves. Cantlay has absolutely dominated this course in the last three years. A long course fits his ball-striking well and he seems to roll the rock really well in Ohio.

Cantlay finished 11th at the Travelers Championship two weeks ago with a total score of 13-under par. Although it was just one event, Cantlay slotted himself first in Strokes Gained: Putting and Strokes Gained: Total since the Tour has resumed. Cantlay is a no brainer here.

Pick: Patrick Cantlay (+105)

Rahm/Hovland/Woodland 3-Ball Matchup Odds

Golfer Odds
Jon Rahm +130
Viktor Hovland +175
Gary Woodland +235

Breakout Week for Rahm

Jon Rahm hasn’t had much success at Muirfield Village. However, he has only played in the Memorial Tournament once – and missing the cut.

Like Koepka, Rahm seems to always be in the mix come Sunday in bigger tournaments. Although he hasn’t won as many as Koepka, I still think he is a good bet this week.

A lot of people have forgotten but Rahm is still the second-ranked golfer in the world. Rahm has not been great recently, missing the cut at the Charles Schwab Challenge, tied-33rd at the RBC Heritage, and t-37th at the Travelers Championship.

All that being said, Rahm is still fifth in Strokes Gained: Off the Tee over that stretch. This means if Rahm can tidy up his approach shots and putting he could be in for a great week. With a much needed week off, Rahm will be coming in rested and raring to go in Ohio.

Pick: Jon Rahm (+130)
