The name of the game this week at the Rocket Mortgage Classic is how low can you go. In the tournament’s four-year existence, the average winning score has been 23-under, with an average cut line of -3.

This year the field is stronger than the previous four years, suggesting the cut may be even lower. That’s going to put a premium on scoring in order to make the weekend, with an extra emphasis on driving distance and strokes gained putting based on historical data of this event.

Brian Harman -210 +150

Despite boasting longer outright odds than pre-tournament favorite Tony Finau, Rickie Fowler has the shortest odds to make the weekend, and the longest odds to trunk slam. Further down the board we’ll find our miss the cut target Chris Kirk, who enters this week in his worst form of the season.

Kirk Struggling to Find His Game

Kirk has trunk slammed in three straight events, losing strokes off the tee in each start, and dropping shots tee-to-green and putting in two of the tournaments. He’s lost strokes off the tee in six straight events dating back to May, and doesn’t possess a skillset that typically excels at Detroit Country Club.

This week’s track has proven to cater to bombers and good putters, two areas where Kirk is below average. Over the last 12 rounds, he ranks 129th in strokes gained putting, 135th in scoring and 102nd in driving distance.

Pick: Chris Kirk to Miss Cut (+175)

Make the Cut Parlay

We’re down on Kirk this week, but we’ve identified a trio of golfers with favorable odds (price considered) to feature in our make the cut parlay. We nailed our +305 parlay last week, and this week’s starts with Austin Eckroat.

He’s currently riding the best form of his young career, making seven straight cuts, and posting five consecutive top-30 results. He ranks 19th in this field in scoring over the last 12 rounds, 30th in putting, and has gained strokes off the tee in eight consecutive events.

Next, we’ll add Justin Suh. He leads the field in putting over the last 12 rounds, while ranking 33rd in scoring. He doesn’t boast the driving prowess we’re targeting this week, but that hasn’t held him back this season. Suh has made the weekend in 18 of 19 starts, including at plenty of long courses like Detroit CC.

Finally, Byeong Hun An will act as our anchor leg. He leas the field in strokes gained off the tee over the past 12 rounds, and has made the weekend in 12 of his last 14 tournaments.

Pick: Make the Cut Parlay (+215)

An vs Hubbard H2H Matchup

Sticking with An, we’re going to target him over Mark Hubbard in the 72-hole head-to-head matchup market as well. This is primarily a play on course fit, as length and precision off the tee is going to put him in much more favorable scoring positions than Hubbard.

An vs Hubbard H2H Odds

Team Moneyline
Byeong Hun An -120
Mark Hubbard +100

The ladder is one of the shorter hitters on tour, ranking 99th in driving distance and 112th in strokes gained off the tee over the past 12 rounds. He typically makes up for it with strong approach play, but his track record at long courses this season is not strong.

He finished 75th at the PGA Championship, and MC’d at Valero, Genesis, Phoenix and the American Express. He’s played this event three times, missing the cut twice, while An is a perfect two-for-two in cuts made at the Rocket Mortgage Classic.

Pick: Byeong Hun An Over Mark Hubbard (-120)
