  • The Sanderson Farms Championship tees off Thursday, October 2nd, from Jackson, Mississippi
  • Akshay Bhatia is the +1900 favorite over Kevin Yu and Davis Thompson to win outright

Following a disappointing loss by the United States at the Ryder Cup, the PGA Tour returns to the Sanderson Farms Championship at the Country Club of Jackson. Rasmus Hojgaard, who was a part of Team Europe’s victory at the Ryder Cup, is the only player to tee it up at Bethpage Black who is in the field this week.

Going low is mandatory for success at this event, with at least 18-under-par being shot by the eventual champion in the last decade. In the previous six iterations of the Sanderson Farms, it’s been a close, exciting finish, with four playoffs and a pair of one stroke victories. Kevin Yu returns as defending champion, after his playoff victory over Beau Hossler, and he’s sporting the second shortest odds to go back-to-back.

There’s no obvious go-to champion at this event, as evidenced that Akshay Bhatia is the favorite at +1900 odds. I’m going to start my card with J.T. Poston, who has won three times on the PGA Tour, and was third at this tournament in 2020.

In 2025, he’s had a solid, if unspectacular campaign, racking up eight top-25s, with his best finish a tie for fifth at the PGA Championship.

Last Five Sanderson Farms Championship Winners

YearWinner
2024Kevin Yu
2023Luke List
2022Mackenzie Hughes
2021Sam Burns
2020Sergio Garcia

Poston is very comfortable in birdie fests, as evidenced by his three titles each coming at 21 or 22 under par. Two of those have occurred since 2022, with him taking the John Deere Classic that year, and the 2024 Shriners Children’s Open. There are five golfers with shorter odds than him, which is decent value to snag him at +2800 to win outright.

Sanderson Farms Championship 2025 Picks & Value Bets

  1. Mackenzie Hughes +3500: Mackenzie Hughes made the 2022 Sanderson Farms his second triumph on the PGA Tour, and he came close to adding to that at the 2025 Myrtle Beach Classic, where he lost in a playoff. He’s posted four top-tens in 2025, including a T-7th at the last time competing at the Procore Championship, and he was T-8th last year at the Sanderson Farms.
  2. Cameron Champ +5000: A past winner of this tournament (2018), Cameron Champ finds himself popping up on leaderboards in the fall events, where he’s won two of three titles to date (also the Safeway Open). He’s been showing some more consistency, with five top-30s in his last seven events. In the last 24 rounds on tour, Champ is first in strokes gained: off-the-tee and fifth in total strokes gained, of those competing this week.
  3. Lanto Griffin +10000: Lanto Griffin very nearly won for the second time in his career in the latest tour stop, where he wound up third at the Procore Championship. That was his third top-25 result in the last four times teeing it up, and Griffin was T-11th at this tourney in 2019. At +10000, you could do a lot worse for a player who is trending upwards.
  4. Nick Dunlap +30000: A deep longshot with intriguing potential to pop is Nick Dunlap, who posted a top-30 in his tournament debut in 2024. There’s no other way to slice it, 2025 was a huge letdown after he won as a 20-year old amateur in 2024, then posted another victory that season. However, at these odds against a weak field, I’m taking the phenom with amazing boom or bust potential, and he’ll be interesting to monitor in the top 10/20 markets.
