It’s the final week of the PGA Tour regular season, with plenty at stake for the players on the outside looking in on the FedExCup Playoffs. Justin Thomas and Adam Scott are among those that need a high end finish to crack the postseason, which would have seemed unfathomable at the start of the year.

Given the way Thomas is playing, no one can fault you for targeting him in the miss the cut market in the Wyndham Championship odds. JT has been trunk slamming left, right and centre this summer, but I’d rather pick on a different former Major Championship winner at this week’s Wyndham Championship.

That would be Gary Woodland, who sports +140 odds to miss the cut at Sedgefield Country Club. No player has a longer price tag to trunk slam, or a shorter price to make the weekend than Russell Henley, despite Henley ranking behind multiple players in the outright market.

Woodland’s Talents Wasted at SedgeField

Typically we like to buy Woodland at long, difficult tracks. He’s known as a pristine ball striker, and someone who excels at spots where par is a good score. Sedgefield CC is not that. The Wyndham Championship is a pure birdie fest with the typical winning score usually falling in the -20 to -22 range.

In order to reach that number, you have to go lights out with the putter, but even to make the cut you’re likely going to need to reach -3 or -4 by Friday afternoon. Elite putting is not a skill that Woodland possesses, in fact, the opposite is true.

Woodland has lost strokes on the green in six of his last seven measured rounds. He’s a negative in the putting department in relation to the field on all types of greens, but Bermuda, which is featured at Sedgefield, is his weakest surface.

Also working against him is the fact that this course deemphasizes off the tee play. There are plenty of forced layups at Sedgefield, and few holes where driver can be unleashed. That negates one of Woodland’s best skills which explains his poor track record at the Wyndham Championship.

Woodland is 0-for-2 in made cuts in his career at Sedgefield CC, and I’m betting he runs that streak to a third consecutive MC this week.

Make the Cut Parlay

Moving over to the make the cut market now, where we’ve put together a parlay of golfers we expect to make the weekend, while trying to stay price sensitive. The list starts with JT Poston, who’s playing as well as anyone in this field.

Poston has three top-six finishes in his last four starts, and won this event back in 2019. Let’s pair him with Eric Cole and Alex Noren, who are each underpriced given their recent form. Cole has made seven consecutive cuts, while Noren quietly has three top-23 results in his last four starts.

We’ll cap off the wager by targeting Cam Davis, who ranks fifth in scoring over the last 12 rounds. He also has top-seven finishes at both TPC Sawgrass and Harbour Town Golf Links this year, two courses with very similar profiles to Sedgefield CC.

Wyndham Championship Pick: Make the Cut Parlay (+340)

Poston vs An H2H Matchup

Moving to the 72-hole head-to-head matchup market now, where once again Poston is our target. We’re backing him against Byeong Hun An, who’s failing in the the two more important statistical categories of the week, putting and approach play.

Poston vs An H2H Odds

Golfer Odds
JT Poston -130
Byeong Hun An +105

Over the last 12 rounds, An ranks 112th in the field in strokes gained approach and 95th in putting. That’s resulted in him failing to crack the top-40 in scoring, while Poston sits 9th in that category over the same stretch.

Only Lucas Glover has gained more total strokes on the field over the last 12 rounds than Poston, making the ladder an easy player to back.
