A David versus Goliath interleague battle is on the schedule this evening (8:10 PM ET, Friday, April 5) when Lance McCullers and the World Series champion Astros host Luis Perdomo and the struggling Padres at Minute Maid Park.

Can the talented but underachieving Perdomo contain Houston’s power bats? Find the opening odds, team stats, betting trends, weather forecast, and score prediction below.

Opening Odds

MONEYLINE RUNLINE O/U RUNS
PADRES (+229) PADRES +1.5 (+115) OVER 8.5 (+100)
ASTROS (-250) ASTROS -1.5 (-135) UNDER 8.5 (-120)

Perdomo was absolutely rocked in his first start, giving up five runs on seven hits (plus four walks) over four innings of work in a 7-3 loss to the Brewers. He continued to display his swing-and-miss ability with seven strikeouts, but was hurt by his usual control issues.

His counterpart tonight, McCullers, wasn’t perfect in his first start, but was much better by comparison, tossing 5.1 innings of four-hit, two-run ball. He also outdid Perdomo in the strikeout department, fanning ten of the 21 batters he faced during Houston’s 9-3 win over Texas.

The Padres’ bats were silenced by the Rockies’ outstanding defense last night (3-1), including this diving stab by Nolan Arenado off the bat of San Diego catcher Austin Hedges.

PADRES 2
ASTROS 7

Don’t overthink this one. The Astros’ moneyline is short for a reason. This is the best team in baseball, on paper, and they’re clearly not suffering from a World Series slump.

Most of the Astros’ lineup has never faced Perdomo before, but the one guy who has (Josh Reddick) is 4-5 with a home run. McCullers on the other hand has faced San Diego’s AJ Ellis, Chase Headley, and Eric Hosmer a total of 19 times and given up just two hits (.105 BA). The 24-year-old has dominating stuff, including one of the best curveballs in the league.
