Happy MLB trade deadline everybody! I interrupt you constantly refreshing X (formerly known as Twitter) to see if your favorite team made a trade to bring you some MLB player prop bangers.

After a light MLB betting slate on Monday, we have a full slate of games on Tuesday, and I have some MLB player props to lock in.

First up, let’s head to Pittsburgh and take Ji-Man Choi to record 2+ total bases.

MLB Player Prop Picks for Tuesday, August 1st

Prop Odds
Ji-Man Choi to Record 2+ Bases +145
Josiah Gray Over 4.5 Strikeouts -145

Choi admittedly is not having a great season, but we still like him to get over 1.5 bases in his matchup on Tuesday against the Tigers. He has been playing much better recently, and he there are a lot of factors in favor of him having a good day at the plate. Let’s get into it.

MLB Player Prop #1: Ji-Man Choi to Record 2+ Bases

If you look at Choi’s stats on the season as a whole, you aren’t impressed. He’s batting .205 on the year with only six home runs. Granted, he missed about three months from early April to early July, returning from injury on July 7. On the date of his return, he went 0-4 at the plate, and had a batting average of .111. Not great! Since July 8, though, he has been hitting .297, with an ISO rate of 40.5%, a wOBA of .418, and a wRC+ of 165. That’s very good!

He also fares much better at the plate against righties than he does lefties. Since July 8, those numbers increase to a batting average of .333, ISO rate of 50%, and wRC+ of 212 specifically against RHP. Obviously, the limited sample size inflates those numbers, but the point here is that Ji-Man Choi is on an absolute heater.

He also has the advantage of going up against a pitcher that is not very good, if we are being honest. Matt Manning of the Tigers has an ERA of 4.32, but an expected ERA of 4.92. Choi should be able to have his way in this matchup on Tuesday.

Pick: Ji-Man Choi to Record 2+ Bases (+145)

MLB Player Prop #2: Josiah Gray Over 4.5 Strikeouts

Next up, we are heading to Washington and backing Gray to get us to 5+ strikeouts. Gray is in a mini-slump, going under this number in three straight starts, but prior to that he had hit in six straight, and he will have a great opportunity to get back to 5+ strikeouts against the Brewers.

Gray isn’t an elite strikeout pitcher by any means, but the beauty of this play is he doesn’t need to be as the Brewers love to strike out. They are the sixth-heaviest strikeout team in the MLB, with a strikeout rate of 24.6%. We will need to see what the Brewers lineup looks like once they officially announce it, but there is a chance we can get to five guys in the lineup who strike out over 25% of the time. This includes Willy Adames, who has struck out 38.5% of the time in the past week alone.

As mentioned earlier, Gray doesn’t have elite stuff, but he is having a good year with a 3.27 ERA, and is allowing a batting average of .250. He should be able to get to 6+ innings pitched in this one, as the Brewers have the fourth-worst offense in the MLB, according to wRC+.

Pick: Josiah Gray Over 4.5 Strikeouts (-145)
