- Don’t miss the latest Brewers vs Phillies picks and starting pitchers below
Two teams with eyes on the National League postseason look for the rubber-match win of their three-game set, as the Milwaukee Brewers (53-43, 27-22 away) visit the Philadelphia Phillies (52-43, 26-18 home).
The Brew Crew currently lead the Central Division, 2.5-games up on the Cincinnati Reds. Philly would be in the race for the division lead too, but they reside in the East, so they’re a distant second, 9.5 games back of the MLB-best Braves.
Still, the Phils are in the thick of the Wild Card race, just a half-game back of the third and final berth in the NL.
Action gets underway Thursday (July 20) at 12:35pm ET from Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, PA. You can watch the game live on MLB Network.
Brewers vs Phillies Odds
Team | Moneyline | Runline | Total |
---|---|---|---|
Milwaukee Brewers | +106 | +1.5 (-176) | Ov 9 (-110) |
Philadelphia Phillies | -124 | -1.5 (+146) | Un 9 (-110) |
The MLB odds have the Phillies as -124 favorites, an implied win probability of 55.36%. The total is set for nine runs.
At 27-22, Milwaukee is tied for the 3rd-most road wins in the National League. Outside the NL East, Philadelphia is tied for the second-most home wins on the circuit. Alas, in their own division, they have a pair of 30+ home win teams in Atlanta and Miami.

Probable Pitchers
This might be one of the best matchups of the day Thursday. Milwaukee sends out Corbin Burnes, and the 28-year-old righty has ripped off three straight wins in his three July starts, pushing his record to 8-5 on the year.
Burnes is holding the opposition to just a .205 batting average, the 5th-best mark in the bigs.

His most recent outing was a gem, going six strong, surrendering just two hits, two walks and fanning 13 in a 1-0 win over the Reds. Burnes now has at least one start in each of the last four months where he’s given up no earned runs and gone at least six innings.
Only Kyle Schwarber has at least 10 at-bats against him in the Phillies lineup, though he’s hitting with just .200 with one home run and one RBI. Nick Castellanos is the only other Phillie to take him yard.
Burnes vs Walker Stats
8-5 | Record | 11-3 |
3.73 | ERA | 4.00 |
1.11 | WHIP | 1.25 |
.282 | OBA | .309 |
2.80 | SO/W Ratio | 2.15 |
The Phillies will counter with Taijuan Walker, who happens to be in a 5-way tie for the most wins in baseball, with 11.
He’s been dynamite, ripping off wins in seven straight starts heading into Thursday, though he hasn’t been as sharp as he was through June.
Last time out, he went five innings, giving up four hits, two earned runs, walking three and striking out three as the Phils crushed the Padres 9-4. Prior to that, he was tagged for four runs, giving up five hits and five walks, with eight strikeouts as Philly beat Tampa 8-4.

Consider that in his previous five starts, Walker had surrendered just three earned runs and seven walks, while striking out 32 in 32 innings of work.
Only six Brewers have ever faced him, and none have more than five at-bats. Willy Adames is the only player to hit a home run off Walker.
Brewers vs Phillies Betting Prediction
Both teams have been playing well of late: the Brewers have won four out of five to start the second half of the season, and seven of nine overall. Philadelphia, meanwhile, just had its 4-game win streak snapped Wednesday by the Brewers in a 5-3 decision.
William Contreras went 3-for-5 night, driving in a pair of runs, while Blake Perkins went 2-for-3, scoring a pair of runs and driving in a pair for Milwaukee, who bounced back after losing the opener 4-3.
Brewers vs Phillies 2023 H2H Results
Date | Away Team | Home Team | Result |
---|---|---|---|
July 19 | Brewers | Phillies | MIL 5-3 |
July 18 | Brewers | Phillies | PHI, 4-3 |
The teams have been evenly matched, splitting the last 10 contests. Philadelphia is a sparking 38-21 as a betting favorite, one of nine teams with a success rate better than 60%. That being said, Milwaukee is 26-23 as an underdog, the 6th-best mark in the majors.
With two high-quality starters getting the call, though, it’s best to target the total, which has gone 3-6-1 in the last 10 matchups, including the first two games of this series.
Pick: UNDER 9 runs (-110)
