In the opener of a three-game series between National League Central teams, the Pittsburgh Pirates host the Milwaukee Brewers at 6:35 p.m. ET Tuesday at PNC Park.

The Brewers (10-7, 5-4 road) lost for the just the second time in their last eight games Monday night when they fell to 4-2 to the San Francisco Giants at home. The Pirates (8-8, 4-2 home) are coming off winning three of four games from the Cubs over the weekend in Chicago, including 4-3 on Sunday.

Woodruff was outstanding as he gave up only one hit in six scoreless innings with nine strikeouts and two walks. Keller also pitched well, allowing one run on four hits in 5.1 innings while striking out seven and walking none.

Woodruff has won two starts in a row since getting tagged for seven runs in 3.2 innings in a loss to the Cubs in his season debut April 9 in Chicago. That is his lone road start this season.

In 11 career games (nine starts) against the Pirates, Woodruff is 5-2 with a 3.74 ERA. He is 1-0 with a 3.77 ERA in four games (two starts) at PNC Park.

Woodruff is making his first start of the season at night after going 6-7 with a 2.80 ERA in 19 starts under the lights in 2021.

Kevin Newman is 6 for 19 (.316) off Woodruff with a double and home run. However, Bryan Reynolds is 1 for 11 (.091) with nine strikeouts and Ke’Bryan Hayes is 0 for 6.

Keller has been the losing pitcher in all his starts this season. Despite losing both career starts against the Brewers, he has compiled a 2.79 ERA against them.

Keller will be making both his second home and night start of the season. On April 15, he lost to the Washington Nationals as he yielded four runs in 3.2 innings.

Omar Narvaez is 4 for 6 off Keller but Kolten Wong is 2 for 11 (.182).

Brewers vs Pirates Betting Outlook

The Brewers lost Monday night when the Giants’ Luis Gonzalez hit a two-run home run in the ninth inning, the first of his career, to break a 2-2 tie.

Willy Adames had tied the game with a solo homer in the eighth. Mike Brosseau had two of the Brewers’ five hits.

The Pirates were off Monday after beating the Cubs 4-3 on Sunday in Chicago. Newman went 2 for 3 with a double and a walk in his first multi-hit game of the year.

The Brewers swept a three-game series from the Pirates last week in Milwaukee and are 37-14 against Pittsburgh since the start of the 2019 season.

Keller’s advanced metrics suggests he is pitching better than his record and ERA. However, Woodruff is back in All-Star form after his rough season debut and it’s hard to bet against him, especially since the Brewers have had the Pirates’  number in recent years.
