  • Oddsmakers are assigning the reigning World Series-champion Los Angeles Dodgers the highest 2021 MLB win total at 102.5
  • LA’s 43-17 record in 2020 pro rates out to 117 wins over a 162-game season

The bar is set high when it comes to the 2021 MLB win totals for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Then again, the Dodgers have cleared this bar in three of the past four seasons.

Oddsmakers are assigning the reigning World Series champion Dodgers the highest win total for the 2021 MLB season.  LA is set at 102.5 in the MLB win totals.

While on the surface that seems high, it’s not really proven all that challenging for the Dodgers. LA won 104 games in 2017 and 106 games in 2019.

Last season, the Dodgers were 43-17 in the COVID-19-shortened 60-game campaign. That works out to 117 victories when prorated over 162 games.

The New York Yankees (95.5 wins) and San Diego Padres (94.5 wins) are next in line as far as win totals go.

Top Five 2021 MLB Win Total Odds

Team Win Total Over Odds Under Odds

New York Yankees 95.5 -112 -112
San Diego Padres 94.5 -112 -112
Atlanta Braves 91.5 -112 -112
Chicago White Sox 91.5 -112 -112

The first pitches of the MLB season will be thrown on April 1st.

Dodgers Will Rake Again

The Dodgers return almost all of the core of the ball club that dominated the majors a year ago. To an already deep starting rotation, LA added 2020 NL Cy Young Award winner Trevor Bauer as a free agent and returns former AL Cy Young Award winner David Price. He opted out of the 2020 campaign.

Last season, LA posted the best ERA in baseball (3.02) and also led the majors with 118 home runs. Mookie Betts was AL MVP in 2018 and he’s a solid betting choice to be NL MVP in 2021.

Perhaps the best thing the Dodgers have going for them is that they know the young, up-and-coming San Diego Padres are hot on their heels. That’s all the motivation that the team needs in order to avoid the pitfalls of complacency.

Pick: Los Angeles Dodgers over 102.5 wins (-118)

Yankees Could Face Challengers

Putting the ball in play, or hitting it out of the park, shouldn’t be an issue for the New York Yankees. Keeping it in the yard when their pitchers are on the hill might be an entirely different matter.

The Bronx Bombers have a Cy Young contender atop their rotation in Gerrit Cole. After that, who knows? There’s no questioning the talent of Corey Kluber and Jameson Taillon, two offseason additions. Will their oft-injured arms hold up over a 162-game season?

It’s already known that Luis Severino won’t be back from his Tommy John surgery until around midseason.

Both the defending AL champion Tampa Bay Rays and the surprising Toronto Blue Jays could prove a handful for the Yankees.

Pick: New York Yankees under 95.5 wins (-112)

Chisox It to Them

The Chicago White Sox owned the AL’s best record with 14 games left to play last season. Then they faded and lost early in the playoffs.

Legendary Tony LaRussa was recruited as manager. Lucas Giolito, Lance Lynn, and Dallas Keuchel offer a 1-2-3 punch at the top of the rotation. Liam Hendriks gives them an A-list closer.

Even though they’ve got a young nucleus, owner Jerry Reinsdorf, 86, is in win now mode. He won’t hesitate to make other additions during the season.

With Cleveland retooling and Detroit and Kansas City a long away from being good, the ChiSox can make hay in the weak AL Central.

Chicago White Sox over 91.5 wins (-112)
