Value Offered in Urias Strikeout Total

Giants right-hander Kevin Gausman has gone under the 5.5 strikeout total in two of his last three starts. However, he’s gone over that total in five of his last seven starts. Then again he’s 5-4 on the total through his past nine starts and 8 of the last 14.

In other words, it’s about 50-50 proposition. Take into account Gausman’s three starts this season against the Dodgers, though, and the odds move more toward the over. He’s gone over that twice against LA.

Urias, the Dodgers’ bespectacled southpaw, appears to have been given a low number when it comes to total strikeouts for this game. He’s gone over 4.5 strikeouts in six of his last seven games and 11 of 13.

Urias has faced the Giants four times already this season. He fanned exactly five batters in each of three games and doubled that with 10 strikeouts in the other start. That 10-strikeout game came on May 23 at Oracle Park. In two career playoff starts Urias has gone over 4.5 strikeouts in both games.

Picks: Kevin Gausman over 5.5 strikeouts (+105); Julio Urias over 4.5 strikeouts (-161).

Turners Turn On It

Both of LA’s Turners enjoy their plate appearances against Gausman. Third baseman Justin Turner, the Dodgers’ postseason hitting machine, is 5-for-14 (.357) with two home runs and four RBI. He owns a .929 slugging percentage and 1.399 OPS when facing Gausman.  Second baseman Trea Turner is 6-for-18 (.333).

Speaking of best bets, don’t forget Mookie Betts. The Dodgers outfielder is 15-for-46 (.346) when stepping in against Gausman. Those numbers include three homers, seven RBI, and a .543 slugging percentage. Shortstop Corey Seagar is 3-for-7 (.429) with a 1.171 OPS.

For the Giants, catcher Buster Posey absolutely wears out Urias. Posey is 9-for-18 (.500) with three doubles, two RBI, and a 1.238 OPS. First baseman Kris Bryant is 4-for-13 (.308) with a solo homer. Outfielder Austin Slater is 6-for-17 (.353) against Urias with a homer, two RBI, and a 1.036 OPS.

Picks: Mookie Betts over 0.5 hits (-208); Buster Posey over 0.5 hits (-238); Justin Turner over 0.5 home runs (+550).
