Probable Pitchers
Megill has impressed this season since getting called up to the big leagues on June 23rd. In ten starts, the right-hander has a 1-2 record and 3.42 ERA, giving the Mets a reliable arm in the rotation amid all of their injury problems.
However, the rookie is coming off a few shaky starts, giving up three earned runs to the Dodgers then a combined eight runs against the Phillies and Marlins.

While Megill has pitched relatively well across the last two months, he has struggled on the road, posting a 4.79 ERA. The 26-year-old will have his work cut out for him on Wednesday against a Giants lineup that is electrifying. But, no one on their roster has ever faced him, which could prove to be a good thing.
Megill vs DeSclafani
1-2 | Record | 11-5 |
3.42 | ERA | 3.29 |
50 | Innings Pitched | 131.1 |
54 | SO | 122 |
13 | BB | 34 |
DeSclafani has been one of the many bright spots on the San Francisco staff in 2021. The 31-year-old currently has a 3.29 ERA and 11-5 record while throwing two complete games and two shutouts. He has hit a bit of a dry spell lately though, lasting a maximum of five innings across his last three outings. In the process, DeSclafani has allowed 10 earned during that span. The last time out, the righty surrendered two runs against the Rockies but he still got the victory.

Although DeSclafani hasn’t faced the Mets this season, he’s very familiar with them after pitching the entirety of his career in the National League. In six appearances against NY, the veteran has a 5.65 ERA in 28.2 innings of work.
Batting Average vs Starting Pitchers
Mets Batters | Batting Average vs DeSclafani |
---|---|
Pete Alonso | .167 |
Michael Conforto | .000 |
J.D. Davis | .000 |
Brandon Drury | .000 |
Jeff McNeil | .167 |
Brandon Nimmo | .000 |
Kevin Pillar | .200 |
Jonathan Villar | .333 |
For a team that has numerous impact bats, the Mets have been struggling immensely at the plate. They rank towards the bottom of the league in runs, average, hits, and slugging. New York has also hit a dreadful spell and it’s not going to get any easier. The Dodgers rolled into the Big Apple and swept them. Then after this Giants series, the Mets head to LA for another four-game set against the defending champions before a three-game series with San Fran again.

The National League East is extremely tight right now, with the Braves just a few games ahead of NY. But, this next stretch of ballgames for Luis Rojas’ squad could prove to be a huge difference-maker in their hunt for a division title. At the dish and on the mound, the Mets need to improve if the playoffs are going to be a reality come October.
Who could’ve predicted the Giants would be one of the best teams in baseball? Basically no one. Prior to Tuesday’s contest, San Francisco is 8-2 in their last 10 games and continues to swing the bats well and put up solid outings on the bump. In a packed National League West, they currently have a four-game lead over the Dodgers, who can’t seem to beat them this season.

Kris Bryant has been red-hot since joining the Giants, hitting .321 in 15 games. In Monday’s series opener, the former Cub clubbed two home runs in a 7-5 victory. With an already strong lineup, Bryant adds just more firepower as San Fran looks to make a deep playoff run later this year.
Mets vs Giants Prediction
This is a tough one to call because the Giants are unfamiliar with Megill while DeSclafani has pitched poorly against the Mets. However, San Francisco is rolling right now and they are practically unbeatable at home. With that being said, I expect them to come out victorious on Wednesday afternoon at Oracle Park while covering the spread.
Pick: San Francisco Giants -1.5 (+125)
