A pair of struggling National League teams meet on Monday in Colorado, as the Rockies host the Washington Nationals.
Both teams enter play riding multi-game losing streaks, but just because they’re out of playoff contention, doesn’t mean the matchup isn’t worth a sweat.
Nationals vs Rockies Odds
Team | Moneyline | Runline | Total |
---|---|---|---|
Washington Nationals | +155 | +1.5 (-120) | O 11.5 (-110) |
Colorado Rockies | -180 | -1.5 (+100) | U 11.5 (-110) |
Odds as of September 26th at DraftKings.
Colorado Opened as -180 moneyline favorites, in a game that features a total of 11.5. First pitch is scheduled for 8:40 pm ET at Coors Field in Denver, with a cool evening for baseball on deck. The forecast is calling for clear skies, and 57 degree night time temperatures.
Probable Pitchers
German Marquez will get the ball for the Rockies, looking to rebound from a pair of horrific starts. The 26-year-old has coughed up 11 runs in his last 8 innings of work, but has been bailed out by the Colorado bats.

Marquez has avoided taking an L in each of those contests, thanks to 19 runs of support from the Rockies’ lineup. Last time out, he surrendered six hits and five runs in only 4 innings to the Dodgers, marking the fourth time in his past eight outings he’s allowed the opposing team to cross the plate at least five times.
One of those starts was against this same Nationals club 10 days ago. Washington smacked eight hits and scored six runs over four innings, but Colorado still prevailed by scoring two in the 9th to take the game 9-8
Gray vs Marquez
1-2 | Record | 12-10 |
5.92 | ERA | 4.32 |
1.42 | WHIP | 1.26 |
.241 | OBA | .240 |
2.3 | SO/W Ratio | 2.8 |
Despite making half of his starts in the thin Denver air, Marquez has performed much better at home than on the road this season. He’s 8-2 at Coors Field in 2021, with a 3.49 ERA, compared to 4-8 on the road, with a 5.38 ERA.

The Nationals will counter with Josiah Gray, who’s had more than his share of struggles lately. The 23-year-old has yielded at least five runs in four of his past five starts, including two outings ago versus the Rockies.
Batting Average vs Starting Pitchers
Nationals Batters | Batting Average vs Marquez | Rockies Batters | Batting Average vs Gray |
---|---|---|---|
Ryan Zimmerman | .200 | Charlie Blackmon | .200 |
Juan Soto | .400 | C.J. Cron | .000 |
Alex Avila | .000 | Elias Diaz | .333 |
Josh Bell | .063 | Raimel Tapia | .000 |
Alcides Escobar | .167 | Trevor Story | .400 |
Luis Garcia | .500 | Ryan McMahon | .000 |
Yadiel Hernandez | .500 | Garrett Hampson | .000 |
Colorado touched him up for five runs over 5.1 innings on that night, and have crossed the plate seven times in 9.1 innings against him this season.
Gray is allowing a 35% hard hit rate in his rookie campaign and has been plagued by control issues recently. He’s issued 11 walks in his past three outings, including six in his meeting with the Rockies.
Nationals vs Rockies Pick
Colorado’s lineup has been ice cold lately, scoring two runs or less in three straight, but a date with Gray and the Nats should cure their woes. The Rockies have put up at least six runs in two of the three meetings against Washington this season, and facing them in baseball’s most hitter friendly park certainly won’t hurt their offensive outlook on Monday.
The Nats recent struggles meanwhile, cannot be blamed on their lineup. Washington has scored at least six runs in eight of their past 12 games, and are hitting .270 with a .795 OPS over the past two weeks.

The over has hit in three straight Nationals games, and this contest profiles as another high-scoring affair.
Pick: Over 11.5 (-110)
