The Oakland Athletics get some rare national exposure when they host the New York Yankees at 7:07 pm ET Sunday at the Ring Central Coliseum in the finale of a four-game series.
A day after ending the Yankees’ 13-game winning streak with a 3-2 victory, the Athletics (71-59) will play on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball. Oakland snapped its six-game losing streak Saturday and won for just the third time in its last 13 games.
The Yankees (76-53) had been on their longest win streak since 1961. They can still capture their 11th series in a row with a victory in this game and are favored.

Probable Pitchers
The Yankees will give the ball to left-hander Jordan Montgomery (5-5, 3.69) and he will square off with Paul Blackburn (0-1, 4.09).
Montgomery is 2-0 with a 1.78 ERA in his last five starts, allowing one run or fewer four times. That comes after he lost four consecutive starts.
Montgomery vs Blackburn
5-5 | Record | 0-1 |
3.69 | ERA | 4.09 |
4.09 | xERA | 3.78 |
1.19 | WHIP | 1.18 |
3.00 | SO/W | 2.67 |
Montgomery beat the National League East-leading Atlanta Braves on the road Monday when he gave up one run and two hits in five innings with four strikeouts and a walk.
Montgomery has notched eight quality starts in 23 outings this season but his most recent one came in his last loss July 16 to the Boston Red Sox. The Yankees are 15-8 when he starts, including winning the last four.

On the road, Montgomery has a 3-2 record in 13 starts with a 3.97 ERA. He is 0-3 with a 5.20 ERA in nine starts during the day, though.
Montgomery will be facing the Athletics for the third time in his career and is 0-0 with a 4.09 ERA. On June 20 in New York, he surrendered only one run in 5.1 innings. The Athletics scored four runs off Montgomery in 5.2 innings in his 2017 rookie season during his lone start at the RingCentral Coliseum.
Blackburn will be making his third start since being called up from Triple-A Las Vegas. He is 0-5 with an 11.12 ERA in his last seven games (four starts) dating to July 6, 2018.
In his last turn, Blackburn worked 5.2 innings in a no-decision against the Seattle Mariners at home. He allowed two runs on five hits with five strikeouts and no walks.

Blackburn was 4-7 with a 4.97 ERA in 17 games (16 starts) for Las Vegas this year after being designated for assignment in February. He will be pitching against the Yankees for the first time.
Stanton Finally Stopped
The Athletics solved Yankees right fielder Giancarlo Stanton on Saturday when they held him hitless in four at-bats. That ended Stanton’s 23-game on base streak.

Designated hitter Luke Voit is hitting .382 (15 for 34) in his last 12 games with three doubles, four homers and 14 RBIs.
Infielder Rougned Odor is the only Yankee to face Blackburn, going 1-for-3 with a walk. Athletics second baseman Jed Lowrie is 2-for-5 with a triple and home run off Montgomery.
Yankees-Athletics Pick
The Yankees are 4-2 against the Athletics this season after taking two of the first three in this series.
Athletics third baseman Matt Chapman homered Saturday to help end the Yankees’ winning streak. Aaron Judge’s two-run home run in the ninth made it a one-run game but Sergio Romo held on for the save.

While the Athletics slowed down the Yankees on Saturday, look for the Bronx Bombers to bounce back behind Montgomery in this one.
The Pick: Yankees -145
