The Atlanta Braves will try to wrap up their four consecutive National League East title when they host the Philadelphia Phillies at 7:20 pm ET, Thursday, in the finale of a three-game series at Truist Park.

The Braves (85-72, 39-37 home) have a 4.5-game lead over the second-place Phillies (81-77, 34-43 away). Atlanta’s magic number to clinch the division title is one after winning the first two games of the series and they are favored Thursday.

The Phillies have lost three games in a row following a five-game winning streak. The Braves are on a five-game winning streak and winners of nine of their last 10 games.

Probable Pitchers

Starting pitchers with identical ERAs will square off as Kyle Gibson (10-8, 3.60) starts for the Phillies against Ian Anderson (8-5, 3.60).

Acquired from the Texas Rangers at the trade deadline, Gibson has had an awful September, going 0-3 with a 7.16 ERA in five starts.

Gibson vs Anderson

VS
Ian Anderson
10-8 Record 8-5
3.60 ERA 3.60
3.78 xERA 4.35
1.21 WHIP 1.24
2.37 SO/W 2.44

Gibson had a no-decision against the Pittsburgh Pirates last Friday in Philadelphia when he gave up four runs and three hits in six innings while striking out six and walking two.

At least he flashed some pop.

While Gibson has had 20 quality starts in 29 tries overall this season, he has notched only one QS in September. The Phillies are 5-6 with Gibson on the mound but just 1-4 this month.

Gibson is 3-5 with a 4.29 ERA in 16 road starts this season and 6-7 with a 3.97 ERA in 21 games (20 starts) at night.

Gibson has faced the Braves only once, pitching a complete-game eight-hitter to beat them in 2016 when he was with the Minnesota Twins.

Anderson is 3-0 with a 3.76 ERA in five starts since missing seven weeks with shoulder inflammation.

Anderson had one of his best outings of the season his last time out, allowing one run and two hits in seven innings Sept. 22 to beat the Arizona Diamondbacks in Phoenix. He finished with eight strikeouts and one walk.

That was Anderson’s first quality start since July 1, and he has nine total in 23 starts this season. The Braves have a 12-11 record in his starts.

Anderson has a 4-1 record at Truist Park this season with a 3.58 ERA in 10 starts. In 16 starts at night, he is 7-2 with a 3.50 ERA.

Anderson has made his first four career starts against the Phillies this season, going 0-0 with a 3.09 ERA.

The Walking Man

Braves right fielder Jorge Soler is just 1 for 9 against Gibson but has been productive. The hit is a home run. Soler has also drawn six walks.

Right fielder Bryce Harper has carried the Phillies in the second half. In 69 games since the All-Star break, he is hitting .336 with 26 doubles and 19 home runs,

Phillies-Braves Pick

The teams have split 18 games this season with the Braves winning six of eight in Atlanta. Since the start of the 2019 season, the Phillies hold a slim 24-23 edge.

The Braves won 7-2 on Wednesday night as Austin Riley drove in three runs.

The Braves are rolling and Anderson is looking healthy. All signs point to taking the chalk.

The Pick: Braves moneyline (-150)
