  • The Los Angeles Angels are -140 home favorites over the Texas Rangers in an American League West game slated for Monday, September 6
  • It’s the final of a four-game series
  • Texas won 7-3 on Sunday, ending LA’s five-game winning streak against the Rangers

You can’t spell Los Angeles Angels (68-69, 38-33 home) without a lot of Ls and that’s usually what the Texas Rangers (48-88, 17-51 away) gather when they face the Angels.

The Rangers beat the Angels 7-3 on Sunday. The win ended LA’s five-game win streak over Texas. It was just the second time in 10 games that the Rangers emerged victorious over the Angels.

Oddsmakers aren’t expecting a repeat performance in the finale of this four-game series on Monday. The Angels are set as the -140 favorites to return to their winning ways. The Rangers are 4-8 in their last 12 road games against the Angels.

Rangers right-hander AJ Alexy made his MLB debut August 30. He worked five innings of one-hit shutout ball and got the win as Texas beat the Colorado Rockies 4-3. Alexy struck out four and walked three. His maximum exit velocity of 103.7 is among the top 7% in the American League.

He was 3-1 with a 1.66 ERA and 1.01 WHIP in 16 minor-league appearances this season at the Double-A and Triple-A levels. Ten of those 16 appearances were starts. Alexy averaged 10.5 strikeouts per nine innings in the minors. He allowed just 39 hits over 65 innings while striking out 76 batters.

Angels right-hander Jaime Barria was 0-2 with a 6.75 ERA during the month of August. That followed a July in which he went 2-0 with a 1.32 ERA. He’s 1-1 at home this season and 1-1 on the road.

There’s not much in the way of history for either of these teams when it comes to facing Monday’s starting pitchers. Rangers catcher Jose Trevino and first baseman Nathaniel Lowe are both 1-for-2 (.500) when facing Barria.

Second baseman Nick Solak is only 1-for-5 against Barria. However, that one hit was a solo home run – his first MLB homer.

No Angels batter has faced Alexy in an MLB game.

Rangers vs Angels Pick

Texas has gone 20 consecutive games without posting back-to-back wins over the Angels. The last time the Rangers won successive games from LA was a six-game winning streak from August 28-September 9, 2020. The last occasion in which Texas won back-to-back games at Angel Stadium was August 23-24, 2017.

The Angels are 7-1 straight up in their last eight games as the betting favorite and 14-6 SU in the last 20 games as the home chalk. They are 5-2 SU in their last seven home games.

Texas has won an AL-low 17 road games. That’s tied with the Arizona Diamondbacks for the fewest away victories in MLB this season.

Still, if Alexy can repeat his debut performance and Barria keeps heading south, a Texas upset looks like a good play here.

Pick: Texas Rangers (+120)
