The Braves (52-27, 26-15 home) might not have the best record in baseball, but they are the last team anyone wants to see these days.
Atlanta has ripped off 19 wins in their last 22 games, and will have the brooms out on Wednesday as they aim to sweep the Twins (40-41, 17-22 away). Online sportsbooks certainly like their chances, opening up the Braves as home chalk in the MLB odds.

Minnesota vs Atlanta Probable Pitchers
The Braves enter play with the shortest World Series odds, and the best record in the NL. Their 52 victories are just behind the Rays for top spot in MLB, but they way Atlanta is playing it won’t be long before they overtake Tampa Bay.
No lineup has been more dangerous than Atlanta’s over the last month, and they’ll look to tee off on Minnesota starter Kenta Maeda. The right-hander returned from an elbow injury last week to pitch five shutout innings versus Detroit, after posting atrocious numbers in his first month of the season.
Maeda was 0-4 in four April starts, allowing 23 hits, three homers and 16 runs in 16 innings of work. That’s put him on pace for career worsts in virtually every key statistical category, so the recent outing against Detroit is a step in the right direction.
Kenta Maeda Last 5 Starts
Opponent | IP | H | R |
---|---|---|---|
Detroit Tigers | 5.0 | 3 | 0 |
New York Yankees | 3.0 | 11 | 10 |
Boston Red Sox | 2.0 | 1 | 1 |
Chicago White Sox | 6.0 | 8 | 4 |
Miami Marlins | 5.0 | 3 | 1 |
It’s worth mentioning the step up in competition on Wednesday. The Tigers are the third lowest scoring team in baseball, while the Braves are the third highest. Atlanta regulars in the MLB starting lineups have had little trouble versus Maeda in the past, slashing .271/.286/.458 in 48 at-bats.
Brian Snitker has yet to name a starter of his own on Wednesday, after the team optioned AJ Smith-Shawver to Triple-A. The speculation is that they’ll recall Michael Soroka to toe the rubber, after he was just named International Pitcher of the Week.
Soroka is trying to make his way back from Achilles tendon surgery that his derailed his MLB career. He made two starts earlier this season for the Braves, but was hit hard to the tune of an 8.38 ERA.
A couple notes from Braves:
– Mgr. Brian Snitker said no decision has been made on Wednesday’s after yet. Michael Soroka has been speculated as the guy.
– Max Fried is throwing his third bullpen tonight and moving closer to facing live hitters.— Jeff Schultz (@JeffSchultzATL) June 26, 2023
The 25-year-old has been incredibly sharp in his recent stint in the Minors, posting a 2-0 record with a 1.42 ERA over 19 innings. He was an All-Star with Atlanta as a rookie in 2019, and was the team’s Opening Day starter the following year before succumbing to injuries.
Twins vs Braves Predictions
Just how good is Atlanta seeing the ball right now? Well, through 10 at-bats in Tuesday’s win over Minnesota they pounded five home runs off Twins ace Joe Ryan. NL MVP odds favorite Ronald Acuna Jr. smacked two, giving him three dingers in two games.
Austin Riley, Sean Murphy and Michael Harris II also went deep, bringing the Braves home run total to 59 over the past 28 games. The team is averaging 6.25 runs per outing over that stretch, with a batting average just under .300 and a slugging percentage north of .550. Atlanta has outscored Minnesota 10-3 through two games this week, and have lost only once since June 12th.
Minnesota meanwhile, remains on top of the AL Central despite its below .500 record, but the Twins recent results have not been inspiring. They’ve dropped eight of their last 13 contests, scoring four or fewer runs 10 times.
Twins vs Braves 2023 H2H Results
Date | Away Team | Home Team | Result |
---|---|---|---|
June 27 | Twins | Braves | ATL, 6-2 |
June 26 | Twins | Braves | ATL, 4-1 |
They’re batting .230 over the last four weeks, with a .389 slugging percentage. If you extrapolated that slugging percentage over the course of the season it would rank 23rd in MLB, and their top hitters are to blame.
Carlos Correa, Byron Buxton and Max Kepler are all hitting .212 or lower. Correa signed a $200 million contract with Minnesota in the offseason, and has rewarded them with a .287 OBP, 11 home runs and 72 strikeouts over 71 games. Not exactly a lot of bang for your buck.
Pick: Atlanta Braves Moneyline (-162)
