Major League Baseball is back and it’s showcasing a marquee game to kick it all off Wednesday evening – the New York Yankees against the San Francisco Giants. The pitching matchup features Max Fried for NYY (19-5, 2.86 ERA, 1.10 WHIP last season) and Logan Webb for SF (15-11, 3.22 ERA, 1.24 WHIP).
Fried opted not to compete in the World Baseball Classic, which saw the United States lose to Venezuela in the final. Webb shone for the red, white and blue, winning both starts with a sparkling 1.04 ERA and eleven strikeouts.

Yankees vs Giants Picks & Predictions
- Yankees RunLine -1.5 (+146 at FanDuel)
I’m backing the Yankees to put up runs in droves against Giants starter Logan Webb, who has had a checkered history against them. In three career starts, San Fran’s ace has given up three or four runs each time for a pedestrian 5.50 ERA. He’s facing a lineup that smacked the most home runs and scored the most runs in MLB last season. They’ve also brought home at least six runs in five of seven meetings against their adversaries.
Aaron Judge has also torched the Giants in his career, mashing .484 with five HR, ten RBI in nine games. It’s no surprise that he’s the favorite in the American League MLB MVP odds to win for a fourth time in five seasons. There are plenty of MLB player props heading into the campaign, so don’t forget to get your bets in before the campaign begins!

New York counters with pitcher Max Fried, who has a 2.68 career ERA vs SF and hasn’t allowed more than three earned runs in eight career starts. The Giants last year struggled mightily against southpaw hurlers, hitting a paltry .214, worst in Major League Baseball. MLB public betting is in agreement with me, selecting the Yankees runline on 75% of wagers and 90% of the money is on the pinstripes.
65% of bets has New York winning this matchup straight up, and a whopping 91% think it’ll be over seven combined runs scored. Should the Giants chase Fried from the game, they could take advantage of a suspect Yankees bullpen that was eighth worst last season (4.37 ERA), which could result in over seven total runs scored.
The Yankees have the second shortest World Series odds at +1000, while the Giants are a distinct underdog at +5500.
