The Boston Celtics missed a golden opportunity to get a leg up in their 2nd Round series against the Philadelphia 76ers in the East’s NBA Playoff Bracket.
Fortunately, they’ll seek to salvage a split at home in Game 2 with the newly-minted NBA MVP Joel Embiid (knee) likely sidelined again.
Oddsmakers aren’t giving the visiting Sixers much of a chance in the NBA odds, pegging them as hefty 10-point road ‘dogs, including a distant +410 on the moneyline. That’s an implied win probability of just 19.61% to leave Beantown up 2-0.
Game 2 goes Wednesday (May 3) at 8pm ET from TD Garden in Boston, MA. You can watch the game live on TNT.
76ers vs Celtics Game 2 Odds

Boston was tied with the Milwaukee Bucks for the best home record in the East at 32-9, but they’ve dropped two straight in the postseason.
Philly was tied for the best road record in the NBA this season at 25-16. They’ve yet to lose on the road in the playoffs this season, riding a 3-0 road record into Game 2.

Old Beard Returns in Game 1
Embiid may have captured the MVP award this year, but it was James Harden’s MVP-level throwback in Game 1 that staked the 76ers to a 1-0 series lead.
Harden tied a playoff career-high with 45 points, six assists and two steals, including the dagger 3-pointer to take the lead for good in Philly’s 119-15 win. He poured in 15 points in the final frame to lift the Sixers — who entered the game as 14.5-point underdogs — to the improbable victory.

He was flanked by Tyrese Maxey, who had 26 points, and four steals, while Tobias Harris had 18 points and five boards. De’Anthony Melton drilled five three-pointers to finish with 17 off the bench.
Philly’s marksmanship was a big factor in this one, hitting 17-for-38 from distance, a crisp 44.7% clip. They outscored the Celtics by 21 points from beyond the arc.
With Embiid sidelined — he hasn’t played since Game 3 against the Brooklyn Nets on April 20 — the Celtics went to work inside and punished the Sixers, pouring in 66 paint points, earning a +24 advantage in that category.

The C’s also shot it at 58.7% for the game, and out rebounded Philly by 10. However, Boston was sloppy with the ball, turning it over 16 times, which Philly converted into 20 points, none worse than a turnover to spring Maxey for a score to give Philly a late lead.
The loss spoiled a sparkling performance from Jayson Tatum, who scored 39 points, with 11 rebounds and five assists. Jaylen Brown had 23 points, six rebounds and four assists and Marcus Smart had 12 points and seven dimes, but they combined to turn it over 10 times.
Philadelphia vs Boston Same-Game Parlay
Looking to add a little excitement to Wednesday night? Try out this Same-Game parlay that pays out at +2500 odds.
We’ll start with Harden, who should be the offensive center of the attack with Embiid sidelined. Look for Philly to space it out, let Harden hunt out his pick-and-roll mismatch and go to work. He’ll hoist up enough shots to get to 25.
We’ve added his under for 7.5 assists, a sneaky-good value, considering the Beard has crossed this total just once in his last four games.
76ers vs Celtics Game 2 Same-Game Parlay
Pick | Odds |
---|---|
James Harden OVER 24.5 points | +110 |
James Harden UNDER 7.5 assists | +130 |
Jayson Tatum OVER 5.5 assists | +175 |
Derrick White OVER 13.5 points | +125 |
Same-Game Parlay Odds | +2500 |
As for Tatum, he’s hit six assists three times in the playoffs with another couple of games at five dimes, including Game 1. He had his best two assist games prior to the Philly series, with seven dimes in Game 6 and eight in Game 5 against the Hawks.
Finally, Derrick White had himself a night to forget, scoring just four points on 1-for-5 shooting, including 0-for-4 from deep. He averaged better than 17 a game against the Hawks. I like him getting going in Game 2.

76ers vs Celtics Prediction
With their Game 1 win, the 76ers are just 1-5 against the spread against Boston in their last six games. However, the Sixers are 6-0-1 ATS in their last seven overall.
Boston is 24-19-0 ATS as the home favorite, though the Sixers are a top-4 betting team on the road, going 25-18-1 ATS.
Have the 76ers already completed what they needed to do, or can they compete again without the league MVP?
I think Philly keeps it close for a while, giving Boston some panic, before the home team pulls away in convincing fashion.
Pick:
- Celtics -10 (-110); 1.5 units to win 1.36 units
