- Brooklyn has the most cap space available entering NBA free agency
- The Knicks are among the frontrunners to offer Kevin Durant a max deal
- The Clippers will be courting Kawhi Leonard
The Kevin Durant sweepstakes are officially underway after the two-time NBA champion declined a $31.5 million player option with the Golden State Warriors — setting the stage to become an unrestricted free agent.
Several teams are expected to go all-in on Durant, despite the fact that he suffered a ruptured Achilles in the NBA Finals and will likely miss the entire 2019-20 season. One of those teams are the New York Knicks, who have plenty of cap space — roughly $59 million — to take a run at offering the superstar a maximum deal this offseason.

Other high-profile free agents who opted out of their current contracts include NBA Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard of the Toronto Raptors and Kyrie Irving of the Boston Celtics.
With the salary cap predicted to increase to $109 million for the 2019-20 season and a luxury tax of $132 million, there will definitely be a number of big-spending teams when the market opens. But which NBA team will spend the most during the free agent period?

Brooklyn Nets | -300 |
Los Angeles Clippers | +325 |
New York Knicks | +350 |

Nets Odds-On Favorites
The odds heavily favor the Brooklyn Nets. The Nets have the largest practical cap space among all NBA teams heading into free agency at just under $67 million.
Brooklyn will be in the mix to sign Durant. The club has also been largely tied to a new contract with Irving, who could very well help influence Durant to join him in. Both are expected to receive max deals, which would easily put the Nets among the highest free agent spenders this summer.

Knicks Intriguing +350 Underdogs
The better odds are on the Knicks, who have the second most cap space in the NBA and even if New York — the league’s worst team last season — falls short in signing Durant, the belief is general manager Scott Perry will still be active in free agency as the team continues rebuild.
Perry has reportedly set up meetings with Leonard as well as DeMarcus Cousins.

Intriguing +350 odds suggest the Knicks will in fact spend the most in free agency this off-season, with or without a deal for KD.

Another prime target for Perry and the Knicks could be Jimmy Butler, despite ties to the Houston Rockets. Butler, who turns 30 in September, would be a solid secondary piece if the Knicks could also land a play like Irving or KD.
Clippers Zeroing in on Kawhi
The Clippers have targeted one player in particular this offseason: Kawhi Leonard. With about $54.1 million in practical cap space, the Clippers have made it well known they want to add Leonard to their roster next season. Leonard, who opted out of his player option with the Raptors, is set to become a free agent.
