  • The Miami Heat are 1-point home favorites over the Boston Celtics in an NBA game slated for Tuesday, January 24
  • Boston lost 113-98 at the Orlando Magic on Monday
  • The Celtics haven’t lost a regular-season road game to the Heat since August 4, 2020

When the Boston Celtics (35-13, 26-22 ATS) visit the Miami Heat (26-22, 18-27-3 ATS), good things happen for them. Like a lot of folks from the Northeast, there’s just something about a trip to South Beach that rejuvenates them. And rejuvenating is exactly what the Celtics are needing at the moment.

A 113-98 setback on the road Monday against the Orlando Magic brought an end to Boston’s nine-game winning streak. It also halted Boston’s seven-game winning roll within the state of Florida.

Boston will be looking to rebound in the Sunshine State on Tuesday. However, oddsmakers aren’t counting on it. It’s the hometown Heat who are set as 1-point favorites. Boston is 0-3 against the spread over the past three games.

Boston vs Miami Injury Report

Boston played briefly in Monday’s loss without the club’s best player. Forward Jayson Tatum left the game with a stomach ailment. He later returned to action, scoring 26 points.

Three other key players were missing from the NBA Starting lineups for the Celtics as Boston was losing at Orlando. Center Robert Williams III (knee) sat as an injury management precaution. PG Marcus Smart (ankle) and PG Malcolm Brogdon (personal) were also out. Forward Danilo Gallinari (torn ACL) is out for the season.

For the Heat, forwards Duncan Robinson (finger surgery) and Nicola Jovic (back) and center Omer Yurtseven (ankle surgery) are out.

Celtics a Sound Machine Against Miami

Luckily for the Celtics, it’s been a long time since they left a regular-season road game against Miami without the W.

That was on August 4, 2020. However, Boston’s 112-106 loss that night came at Bay Lake, Fla. while the NBA was playing in the COVID-19 bubble. The Celtics have won five in a row at Miami since a 115-109 setback on January 10, 2019.

Heat Rally for Home-Court Victory

Since a 120-116 win at Boston on December 2, Miami is just 3-5 SU when facing Eastern Conference opposition. The Heat needed to rally from a 16-point halftime deficit to win 100-96 over the New Orleans Pelicans in their last game.

Tyler Herro led the way with 26 points for the Heat. Bam Adebayo and Jimmy Butler each scored 18 for Miami, while Dwight Lowry added 17. Lowry scored nine of those points in a span of 1:42 as Miami was rallying in the fourth quarter. The win ended a two-game home-court losing skid.

Boston vs Miami Prediction

The uncertainty of Tatum’s health is making this game a tough bet for Celtics backers. He’s leading the team with 31.2 points per game and is a top contender in the NBA MVP odds.

Then there’s the fact that the last three times that Boston followed a win with a loss, the Celtics also lost at least the next game. They’ve only endured four losing streaks of two or more games this season, but three of them have come during the past 22 games.

Miami is just 2-2 SU over the past four games. However, the Heat are 6-1 SU and 5-2 ATS in the past seven home games.

Pick: Miami Heat -1 (-110)
