With the Milwaukee Bucks unceremoniously bounced in Round 1, many people believed the road through the East’s NBA Playoff Bracket had to go through Boston — the team with 2nd-best record in the NBA this season.
Nobody told that to the Philadelphia 76ers, who crashed the party in Beantown with a win in Game 5 to break the Round 2, 2-2 series deadlock.
The 3-seed is now just one win away from advancing to the Conference Finals for the first time since 2001.
The Celtics, who tied for the 2nd-best road record in the regular season (25-16), now need a win to push things to a Game 7.
Game 6 goes Thursday (May 11) at 7:30pm ET from the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, PA. You can watch the game live on ESPN.

The books seem to think the C’s have some life left, pegging them as 2.5-point road favourites in the NBA odds, and -140 on the moneyline, an implied win probability of 58.33%.
That might also be due to the fact that freshly-minted MVP Joel Embiid was on the injury list with a knee injury, and is listed as questionable.
As for the total, it’s set at 212.5 points.

Celtics Sluggish in Crucial Contest
With home court advantage in what was now a best-of-3, the Celtics started slow and couldn’t find any momentum, dropping a 115-103 decision, in a Game 5 that really wasn’t all that close. Boston trailed by as many as 21 points in the fourth quarter.
Jayson Tatum led Boston with 36 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists, five steals and two blocks, but shot 11-for-27 from the field, including a dismal 3-for-11 from three-point range.

Tatum missed his first six shots of the game, and despite 15 halftime points, he was 3-for-11 from the field and 1-for-6 from distance.
Jaylen Brown had 24 points, six rebounds and two assists, while Marcus Smart had 14 points, three rebounds and four assists. They were the only three Celtics to hit double digits in scoring, and their 103 points was their lowest output of the playoffs.
As a team, the Celtics shot 12-for-38 from beyond the arc, a lowly 31.6% clip. Al Horford missed all seven of his money-ball attempts.
76ers Ride Embiid to Victory
Behind an MVP-level performance from Embiid, the 76ers laid the wood to a Boston side that tied for the best home record in the East.
Embiid dropped 33 points, seven rebounds and four assists, while anchoring a defence with four blocked shots, limiting the Celtics to just 39.8% shooting for the game. It’s his third straight 30+ point performance.

Coning off his second 40+ point game of the series in a Game 5 win, James Harden played a perfect sidekick in this one, scoring 17 points, with 10 assists, eight rebounds and two steals. He was effective and meaningful, despite only attempting eight shots.
That’s because Tyrese Maxey exploded for 30 points, seven rebounds and three assists. Tobias Harris was the fourth starter to crack double figures, with 16 points and 11 boards.
Philly shot 50.6% from the field for the game, enjoyed a +13 rebound advantage and outscored Boston 15-5 in fast-break points.
Celtics vs 76ers Prop Bets & Predictions
With Embiid slightly dinged up — I don’t think anything is keeping him from Game 6 — I think Harden gives the big man some slight relief by keeping him well fed, but by also getting his offensively.
He’s crossed the 35.5 total in points, rebounds and assists in two games, missing it by just a half-point in Game 5. Look for the Beard to be feature prominently.
Looking for a pattern? After hitting four threes in Game 1, Tatum has alternated with one hit, three makes, one hit and three makes. Targeting under 2.5 three-point hits pays out at +140.
And file this under worth a sprinkle: PJ Tucker has gone two straight games without a turnover, so he’s now +100 to go over 0.5 turnovers. One bad pass, and you cash.
As for the game, Philly is 6-1-1 against the spread in their last eight following a win. However, Boston is 4-1 ATS in their last five at Philly, and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 overall against the Sixers.
