Miami Heat Betting Analysis

Miami was one of the final four teams standing in 2021-22. They ultimately bowed out in the East Finals to the Celtics, but big things were expected from them this season. So far, they haven’t lived up to their billing.

They enter play on Friday still listed as a top-eight contender in the NBA championship odds, but off to a disappointing 7-8 start.

They had been showing signs of life recently, stringing three straight wins together, but that came crashing to a halt on Wednesday in Toronto. Playing without several key players, the Heat fell 112-104 to the Raptors. Star big man Bam Adebayo sat with a knee injury, while second leading scorer Tyler Herro missed due to an ankle injury.

Herro has already been ruled out of Friday’s game, as has guard Victor Oladipo (knee), while Adebayo is listed as questionable.

Without Herro, and potentially Adebayo as well, expect the Heat offense to struggle – like they have all season. Miami ranks 18th in offensive rating and 20th in scoring. Only eight teams shoot a lower percentage from the field, while the Heat is third last in rebounding.

They were crushed on the glass and in the paint by Toronto on Wednesday, losing the rebounding battle by 19, and yielding 16 offensive boards. The Heat were outscored in the paint 58-42, and committed 23 turnovers.

Washington Wizards Betting Trends

Washington meanwhile, had strung together four straight victories before falling at home to the Thunder in the dying seconds on Wednesday.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander broke Wizards fans hearts by burying a game-winning three with just 1.1 seconds remaining. Washington wound up falling 121-120, spoiling the return of All-Star Bradley Beal. The team’s leading scorer had missed the previous five games, three due to health and safety protocols and two due to rest. He’s in the midst of his lowest producing season since 2016, averaging just 21.6 points per night.

Beal finished with 25 points in his return, while big man Kristaps Porzingis added 27 points of his own. Washington shot 51% from the field and 50% from three, but couldn’t slow down the OKC attack. They yielded a 54% field goal percentage to the Thunder, and allowed them to bury over 51% of their triples.

The Wiz enter play ranked in the bottom-six in scoring and bottom-10 in offensive rating. Defensively, they rate 13th overall and ninth in opponent scoring. Prior to Wednesday, they’d been on a nice little run in their own end, holding their previous four opponents to an average of only 102 points per game.

Heat vs Wizards Prediction

It wasn’t like Washington was doing that against bottom-feeders either. They shut down Luka Doncic and the Mavs, Ja Morant and the Grizzlies, and a 10-win Jazz team during that stretch.

Miami’s three-game winning streak featured two wins against a four-win Charlotte team, while they’ve beaten only three squads with a winning record this season.

NBA Bottom-5 ATS Teams

Team ATS Record Cover % Total +/-
Memphis Grizzlies 9-5-1 35.7% -2.5
Golden State Warriors 5-10 33.3% -5.4
LA Lakers 3-10 23.1% -2.9
Dallas Mavericks 3-10-1 23.1% -3.3
Miami Heat 3-12 20.0% -2.9

The Heat are banged up and playing on the road, where they’ve won just once all season. Miami is a a league-worst 3-12 against the spread, including 1-4 ATS on the road.

Washington on the other hand, is 8-6 against the number, and 5-1 ATS over their past six contests.

Pick: Washington Wizards -1 (-110)
