It’s a light slate in the Association on Sunday, January 16th, with just four contests on the schedule. There are some very good teams in action though as the NBA-best Phoenix Suns face the Detroit Pistons, while the Golden State Warriors wrap up their road trip against Karl-Anthony Towns and the Minnesota Timberwolves.

We also have a divisional showdown between the Utah Jazz and Denver Nuggets, with Nikola Jokic’s squad looking for their third straight win after beating the Lakers on Saturday.

Ayton Goes to Work Again

Phoenix Suns big man Deandre Ayton wasn’t handed a max extension in the offseason after the organization basically said he wasn’t deserving of it. Well, Ayton is proving this season that he’s worth every penny the Suns give him this summer. The former first overall pick has missed time due to COVID-19 and injuries, playing in 27 games. But, he has been very effective when available.

Ayton just dropped 27 in a win over the Pacers on Thursday and he’s hit the over in points in five of his last six games, including the previous two in a row. Although there was a spell of about two weeks where he wasn’t playing after Christmas, the 23-year-old has returned and made an immediate impact. The Suns are rolling right now and their opponent on Sunday in the Pistons allows the sixth-most points in the paint per game. Sure enough, that’s where Ayton does all of his damage.

  • Pick: Deandre Ayton Over 15.5 Points (-112)

Edwards Gets Everyone Involved

Anthony Edwards is mostly known for his ability to score the rock at a high level for the Timberwolves. In Year One, that’s mostly what he did. But, in his sophomore campaign, Edwards has shown impressive growth from a playmaking standpoint, averaging 3.7 assists as opposed to just 2.9 in 2020/21.

Evidently, this is the perfect time to bet on his facilitating skills. Ant has hit the over in dimes in four straight games and most recently dished out four of them to go along with 30 points against the Grizzlies on Thursday. The last time he played the Warriors, Edwards erupted for 48 points and five assists as well. No Steph in the lineup for Golden State on Sunday should allow him to thrive in a variety of ways, but the value here on assists is far too solid to pass up.

  • Pick: Anthony Edwards Over 3.5 Assists (+108)
