Not even James Harden’s return from injury could stop the 76ers from dropping a third straight game. Harden played for the first time since November 2nd on Monday due to to a strained tendon in his foot, but Philly lost anyways, this time to the lowly Rockets.

Philadelphia 76ers Betting Analysis
The Sixers went 8-6 in Harden’s absence, but dropped games to Cleveland and Memphis before falling to Houston in his return. The 2018 MVP went just 4-for-19 from the field, while committing seven turnovers. He salvaged 21 points thanks to numerous trips to the line, but to say he looked rusty is an understatement.
The Philly offense in general has been underwhelming this season, ranking 18th in offensive rating. They’re averaging the fourth fewest points per game in the NBA, while grabbing the fifth fewest offensive boards. Joel Embiid remains a top contender in the NBA MVP odds, averaging a career high 31.9 points per game.

After the Process however, no other regular is shooting north of 50%. The team is desperate for more secondary scoring, which adds greater significance to Harden’s return and highlights the absence of Tyrese Maxey. The third year guard is averaging 23 points per game this season, but has been out since November 18th with a foot injury.
Defensively, the 76ers are pressing all the right buttons. They rank fourth in defensive rating and second in opponent points per game. Only one other team is better at defending the three-point line, while Philly ranks third in steals per play.
Aside from Maxey, De’Anthony Melton (back), Georges Niang (foot) and Danuel House (undisclosed) popped up on the injury report. All three are listed as day-to-day, but both Melton and Niang didn’t practice Thursday.

LA meanwhile, enters this game with health concerns of their own. Both LeBron James (ankle) and Anthony Davis (illness) sat out Wednesday’s loss to Toronto, as did Patrick Beverley (knee) and Wenyen Gabriel (shoulder).
Not surprisingly, the Lakers lost that game and the one before in Cleveland as well. Davis played just eight minutes against the Cavaliers, ending a nine-game run where he averaged 35 points a night.

Both AD and James are listed as probable for Friday’s tilt in Philly, and the 3-point spread definitely suggests they’ll be in the lineup.
Prior to their two-game losing streak, LA was playing much better ball. They’d won eight of 10, beating both the Nets and Bucks along the way. Their improved play has coincided with the return of James, who missed two weeks in November. Since he returned, the team is 5-2 in the games he’s played in.
The Lakers enter play ranked 22nd in offensive rating and 14th in defensive rating. In the last four games James and AD have started and finished though, LA is averaging 126.5 points, while yielding 118.

Those games have produced totals well into the 230’s and 240’s, putting the over in this game squarely in play. Both of these teams have the superstar power to put up big numbers, and it’s worth mentioning that the Philly injuries are to some of their better defenders (Melton and House).
