In a series littered with superstars and future Hall-of-Famers, how ironic is it that Game 4 was decided by a role player. Lonnie Walker came off the bench to carry the Lakers in the fourth quarter of their 104-101 victory over the Warriors, and has put LA in a position to close out the series on Wednesday.

The Lakers will take a 3-1 series lead into Golden State for Game 5, but online sportsbooks aren’t writing off the defending champs just yet. They’ve pegged the Warriors as large home favorites in the NBA odds, fully expecting Steph Curry and Co. to force a Game 6.

Los Angeles vs Golden State Betting Splits

Much like oddsmakers, big money bettors are anticipating the Warriors to rebound in Game 5. Golden State is currently drawing 70% of the spread handle, and that money is coming off just 45% of the ATS bets. The Lakers have been masterful at home during the postseason, posting a 6-0 record, but are just 2-3 as visitors both straight up and against the spread.

Total wise, over 226 is garnering slightly more action than the under. That side is drawing 58% of the tickets, and 56% of the handle. After Game 1 exceeded the total, the past three games of this series have all gone under.

As for the series odds market, LA’s 3-1 stranglehold has made them a commanding favorite to advance in the NBA playoff bracket. The Lakers are now -450 favorites to make the West Final, with Golden State coming back as +350 underdogs.

After peaking at +10500 to win the title back in November, LA now boasts the second shortest NBA Championship odds at +340.

Walker’s 15 point fourth quarter in Game 4 helped steal a contest that the Warriors controlled for the bulk of the night. Walker began the season as a starter, but after an injury and a series of Lakers trades he was relegated to the bench. He didn’t play in Game 1, but contributed 9 and 12 points in Games 2 and 3 respectively before his breakout.

Walker was LeBron James’ primary pick-and-roll partner down the stretch, abusing Curry’s defense for easy looks. LeBron finished with 27 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists, while Anthony Davis chipped in 23 points and 15 boards.

AD was the target of Curry and Co. all night at the other end, as the Warriors dragged him away from the basket to generate gimme buckets. Curry was the focal point of the attack, dishing out 14 assists, most of which came when Davis was switched onto him.

Curry ran 48 pick-and-rolls in Game 4, his most since 2017, with Golden State averaging 1.175 points out of those possessions. Needless to say, that will be an important strategy moving forward.

Curry also splashed 31 points and finished with a triple-double, but it was a pair of missed shots and a turnover in the final two minutes that aided in the Lakers victory. Steph didn’t get a ton of support from his teammates, as no other Warrior finished with more than 17 points.

A big point of contention during this series has been the free throw discrepancy between the two teams, and that was on display again in Game 4. The Lakers earned eight more free throws and took advantage of it. They shot 20-of-20 from the line, and have now attempted over 50 free throws more than the Warriors.

Lakers vs Warriors Predictions

You have to imagine the free throw discrepancy will shade back in the Warriors favor, especially at home. Golden State is just 3-2 during the playoffs at the Chase Center, but they were spectacular there during the regular season.

The Warriors boasted the NBA’s fifth best net rating at home, while their defensive rating was 8 points better than on the road. LA meanwhile, has an outrageous 96.9 defensive rating at home in the postseason, which is 14 points better than their mark as visitors.

Most 30-Point Triple-Doubles in Playoff History

The Lakers average margin of defeat in their three road playoff losses is 18 points, and we should expect Golden State’s championship pedigree to shine through on Wednesday and cover the 7 point spread.

As for the player props market, consider backing the under on both Andrew Wiggins and Dennis Schroder’s point totals. Wiggins’ prop sits at 17.5, a number he hasn’t cleared all series.

Schroder meanwhile, squeaked over his 9.5 point total in Game 4, but that was as a result of some hyper efficient shooting. Considering he’s shooting just 41% from the field this postseason, we should expect some regression in Game 5.
