The Spurs and Pelicans get Saturday’s NBA action underway at 5:10pm ET. San Antonio is five-point underdogs on the road. They are followed by the Kings and Magic at 7:10pm ET before the Raptors host the lowly Pacers at 7:40pm ET.

The three biggest games of the night tip-off half an hour later. Miami looks to bounce back from a surprise loss to the Knicks as they host the Nets — Brooklyn is favored by 3.5 points with both Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving available. Split by just one game in the Eastern Conference, the Chicago Bulls and Cleveland Cavaliers matchup in Ohio, and the defending champion Bucks are on the road against the Memphis Grizzlies.

Despite beating Orlando last time out, the Thunder are heavy underdogs for their matchup with the Nuggets. The night closes out with a duel of the rebuilders as the Rockets take on Portland.

Durant Takes on Struggling Heat

The Miami Heat are not just arguing in timeouts. They have clocked three straights losses, and they weren’t ordinary defeats. Philadelphia beat them without Joel Embiid and James Harden. Jonathan Kuminga and Jordan Poole led the Warriors to a win at FTX Arena with Steph Curry, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson out. The Knicks claimed a win on Friday without Julius Randle.

Miami is 22nd in defense over the last five games. Brooklyn is third in offense over the same period. Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving are available on Saturday night, and Durant comes in on perhaps the best playmaking streak of his career. His assist line is set at 6.5 — he’s recorded seven or more in seven of the last nine games. He’s at over 12 potential assists per game over that period, more than Ja Morant, Jrue Holiday and LeBron James.

The Heat are dead last in opponent three-point rate. With the shooting Brooklyn can put around its stars (especially if Seth Curry and Goran Dragic return), Durant’s playmaking is going to be rewarded. The Nets will be able to get up a lot of three-point shots when Durant is doubled or drives and kicks, and they have the personnel to turn those passes into assists.

While Irving being available eases the burden on Durant, he will remain the lead playmaker. His recent track record and Miami’s struggles make this a great value bet at plus odds.

  • Pick: Kevin Durant over 6.5 assists (+104)

Markkanen Stays Hot Against Former Team

Lauri Markkanen has passed this points line in six of nine and three of the last four. The Bulls, Markkanen’s former team, are 29th in defense over the last five games. Teams shoot almost 37% from three against Chicago, one of the worst marks in the league, and Markkanen is shooting 37.5% on 6.9 attempts per game from deep since the All-Star break.

Spending more time at the four in Jarrett Allen’s absence has allowed the Finn to operate as a screener on occasion. While he primarily pops for perimeter shots, we’ve seen occasional instances of Markkanen as an interior finisher of late, and his size could be a real threat against these Bulls. Line ups with Javonte Green or DeMar DeRozan at the four are very vulnerable against the giant Cavs.

Markkanen’s recent numbers point to the over being a good bet here. If you’re looking for further justification, perhaps this could be seen as an opportunity for Vantaa native to prove a point against the team which moved on from him less than a year ago, too.

  • Pick: Lauri Markkanen over 15.5 points (-108)
