  • The Heat are off to a disappointing 2-4 start, while the Kings are winless in four games

Heading into Friday night’s action there were still three winless teams in the NBA. Sacramento was one of those squads, and they’ll look to finally get into the win column on Saturday when they host the Heat (2-4, 1-1 away).

The Kings (0-4, 0-3 home) have faced a daunting schedule so far, and oddsmakers don’t expect things to get any easier versus last year’s Eastern Conference runner-ups.

Miami opened up as the road chalk in the NBA odds, as they look for just their third victory in seven games.

Miami Heat Betting Analysis

Miami was thought to be a serious contender in the NBA Championship odds. So far, they’ve looked nothing like one. They’ve dropped two of their past three, and are fresh off a 123-110 defeat at the hands of the Warriors.

Jimmy Butler led the way with 27 points in the loss, while Bam Adebayo poured in 26 points. The Heat shot just 44.3% from the field and 32.6% from three, against what had been a bottom-10 defense entering the game.

Miami had no answer for Steph Curry, who splashed 30, while they allowed Golden State to knock down 50% of their attempts. The Heat were out-rebounded by 19, dished out five fewer assists, and lost the battle in the paint by 14 points.

Offensively, only three teams average fewer points than the Heat this season. They rank 27th in total rebounding and 23rd in field goal percentage.

They’ve been much better defensively, last game notwithstanding, but let’s face it few teams are strong enough to shut down the Warriors. Miami ranks seventh in scoring defense, and eighth in both steals and opponent turnovers.

On the injury front, guard Victor Oladipo (knee) and center Omar Yurtseven (ankle) are both out, while center Dewayne Dedmon is day-to-day.

Sacramento Kings Betting Analysis

The Kings have dropped four straight, the last three to serious Western Conference contenders. They kept things close against both the Clippers and Warriors, but their most recent game against the Grizzlies got away from them.

Sacramento dropped a 125-110 decision to Memphis, wasting another impressive performance from De’Aaron Fox. The 24-year-old splashed 27 points and grabbed six boards, and is one of only nine NBA players who average over 30 points during this young season (30.5).

Harrison Barnes added 20 points, while rookie Keegan Murray scored 20 in his first career start, but the Kings had no answer on defense.

Sacramento yielded a 53.3% field goal percentage to the Grizzlies, and allowed them to shoot 43.4% from three. Memphis dominated down low, pulling down 43 rebounds and outscoring the Kings 66-54 in the paint.

Sacramento enters play as the league’s sixth worst scoring defense, while only the Spurs have surrendered a higher field goal percentage to enemy shooters.

Offensively, they rank right around league average in scoring and field goal percentage. They’re slightly below average from three, but the free throw line is where they bleed points. The Kings rank fourth worst in free throw percentage, and it’s hard to keep games close when you’re missing gimme’s.

Heat vs Kings Prediction

Sacramento is 1-2 against the spread at home this season, and are covering just 45% of their home tilts dating back to the start of last season.

On the surface this line feels too low, a fact that is compounded by the Kings awful defense. A lineup featuring Butler, Adebayo, Kyle Lowry and Tyler Herro among others, should have a field day. Miami has been waiting for a breakout performance from their offense and this is the spot for it.

Defensively, Miami is still strong, and outside of Fox, Sacramento’s offense isn’t scaring anyone. They’ve exceeded 110 points just once, and are likely to fall below that number in this outing as well. Lay the points with Miami.

Pick: Miami Heat -4 (-110)
